ofcourse it has a green light that says its fully charged. what i mean is, before the first use..dont you guys ever heard people having to charge cellphone batteries for atleast 7hrs even though the green is light..i was just making sure if its the same with cameras..pssh

Often, the battery charger will have a green/red led...when you put the camera battery in, the charging led will go red. Then, when it's done charging, it'll change to green or just go off completely. Otherwise, you should only need a couple of hours, though I find it easiest to just leave it in overnight and remove it in the morning.

Where can I find a "AA" battery carriage/adapter that can substitue the proprietary battery pack in my Canon Digital Rebel 6MP? I know that there is a battery pack for it that's hard to find called the Canon BGE1 Battery Grip, but it doesn't support using "AA" batteries. I've gone through a ton of these proprietary battery packs, and none of them last long, and they're expensive to buy. They don't hold charges very good either. If anyone knows of where I can purchase something like this, or where I could get someone to make me a custom one based on the Canon BP-511 Battery pack, I would be super grateful. I love my camera, but I'm tired of buying Canon's batteries and having them run dead in a month, and not recharging. Thank you.

I currently have two canon powershot s410 and sd600 that uses square battery pack and I use a charger to charge them back up. I was wondering whether regular double AA batteries are better compared to the digital cameras that uses battery packs. Sorry for the wordy ness.

double AA:
+ cheaper replacements
+ availability
+ can be use on other devices (but i don't recommend this)
- big and heavy
- longer time charging

lithium pack:
+ small and light
+ store more power
+ longer battery life
+ faster charging
- expensive
- less compability
