What, in your opinion, is a better camera... Canon EOS Rebel xTi or Nikon D40X?
"What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well". ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I currently have the D40X, but mine has some problems and I may have to get a new camera. My question for you is should I stick with nikon and get another D40x or maybe a D60? Or should I switch over to canon and get maybe an EOS Rebel? And why would you choose one over the other?
Thanks!
~Joe

Actually I am familiar with the Canon XS. I switched from the Canon Rebel T2 35mm. I would recommend that you get a Canon XS DSLR.It is a( DIGITAL Single Lens Reflex ) camera and sales for $549.00 up to $599.00. After you become proficient in using it, you can slowly add different lens to obtain full use of the camera. Most low cost point and shoot cameras do not offer the option of taking pictures in B&W. You would have to convert those color pictures with the software provided with the camera. However, with the Canon you can set it to take B&W pictures. I used a 300mm lens on my Canon and obtained some very awesome pictures of the moon. Picture quality is great and the craters are in great detail. Canon has been my only choice in photography due to the quality of taking pictures with those cameras. The only real filters you should invest in will be (1) UV (ultra violet) filter (primarily to protect the lens. (2) Polarized filter (to take pictures through glass and aquariums (keeps glass from glaring). Take a look at the following link. I have several pictures posted on Flicker that I took with the Canon XS. As you will see the Canon Photos have vivid color and excellent clarity. Good luck.

Where can i get a cheap canon eos beginner camera in singapore?
Mamiya C330 Professional S

I want to get a cheap digital camera from canon eos edition in singapore. My current eos 500 still used film and has moist, creating fungus. Where can i clean it too?

If you're looking for brand new digital cameras, you can get the low-end range for beginners at most electronic stores. The prices are generally the same.

If you're looking for used digital cameras, you can try online marketplace portals or shops specialising in used camera/accessories. There is at least one such shop in Peninsula Shopping Complex. The price and quality differs accordingly.

SLR cameras are usually sold in a bundle which may include at least 1 lens (with lens cap), 1 rechargeable battery, strap and so on. You may also get 'free' add-ons like lens filter, camera bag, cleaning kit, tripod/monopod, storage media, etc.

When buying a camera, you need to consider your needs and budget. If you don't intend to have more control with your camera, you don't need to get the high-end (professional) cameras. Similarly, if you don't intend to enlarge your prints to the size of a billboard, getting a high megapixel camera could be a waste of your money. If you don't take photos often, perhaps a compact camera would be a better choice.

Be aware that a 'cheap' camera does not necessarily mean that the camera is good. It is better to look out for affordable and value-for-money cameras. Like everything else, your satisfaction of a product depends on how much 'investment' you are willing to put in.

For servicing, you may bring your cameras to any photo shops. If it's a simple problem, they may rectify it for you at a cost. Personally, I prefer to send my cameras for servicing at their respective service centres even though my warranty has expired.

For Canon, their service centre is at:
1 HarbourFront Ave,
#04-01 Keppel Bay Tower,
Singapore 098632

Operating hours:
Open Mondays to Fridays from 9.30am to 7pm
(closed on public holidays)
http://www.canon.com.sg

When sending your equipment for servicing, ensure that you request a quotation on expected costs. Most likely, you will not get the estimate on the spot. The service centre will contact you on the costs incurred and your consent to proceed with the servicing. I usually have to wait about 2-3 weeks thereafter.

After the servicing is completed, you will be contacted again for collection and payment. Ensure that your camera is in perfect working condition. Most service centres come with a limited warranty after the repair. If your camera is faulty after servicing, bring it back and the service centre will take a look at it again. If it's the same problem, the subsequent repair should be free.

I recommend that you send your camera to Canon service centre. Fungus in the camera body or the lens may require special treatment and handling by trained and experienced technicians. It should not be moist inside the camera. Possibly, your camera was exposed to high humidity.

It would be best to maintain a dry environment for storing your camera equipment. This is crucial if you're using digital cameras as water may effect the internal circuitry and electronics adversely. Get a dry box if you can afford it. If not, keep it dark, cool and dry.

All the best in your photographic pursuits. With digital cameras, don't forget to snap frequently and take photos liberally. Unlike film cameras, you can view the picture instantly and with no developing costs.

Can I take action shots with the camera Canon EOS Rebel K2?
Venice shop - Behind the window

I was wondering if with the camera Canon EOS Rebel K2 I would be able to take action shots?
... I need an answer ASAP
Thx :]

A shutter speed above 1/500 will get you action shots that stop action. 1/1000. is better and 1/2000 will give you photos on an autowinder or continuous shooting that will look like Time Lapse photography. A lot of what you need to ask is what effect are you looking for in the picture. Less than 1/500 is like to make a baseball a white blur. The Canon Rebel line will give you should give you an adequate range to do what you want to do. Your camera may already be programmed for sports/action which will do the thing you are asking for. Commonly on full automatic, there are icons to guide. A face means portrait. A Flower means macro/close up photography Mountains symbolize wide angle/telephoto. An icon showing motion/speed is stop action photo.

How to fix a UV filter to my Canon DSLR camera eos 450D?
Toyota Corolla AE86GT - Thomas

I just bought a DSLR eos 450D canon camera. I was given a free UV filter. But I am not sure how to fix it to my lens. Can some one tell me how to, or give me any website where there are instructions. Do i have to twist my lens or something so that i can attach the UV filter. Pls help.. thank you..

The filter should simply just screw onto the front of the lens. Clockwise for on and anti-clockwise to remove it.

Can a Canon EOS SLR film camera use Canon digital SLR lenses?
Toyota Corolla AE86GT - Thomas

I've got an older 35 mm Canon EOS SLR. I'm seeing a lot of the 28-135mm zoom lenses on sale that come with the Canon 40D digital cameras. Can I use that lens on my film camera?

You sure can. All EF lenses can be used on both film and digital Canon cameras. The only lenses that your film camera can not use are the EFs lenses these are designed specifically for the cropped sensors on DSLR cameras. For instance many DSLR cameras come with a EFs 18-55mm lens. This would be the equivalent to the EF 28-90mm lens that comes with many film cameras.

The reason why Canon produces these EFs lenses is that because of the cropped sensor (smaller than 35mm film) the field of view is magnified by 1.6

This is great for a telephoto lens. Your 200 mm lens becomes a 320mm lens. On the wide angle end you lose out. This is why Canon has lenses like the EFs 18-55 mm and the EFs 10-22mm.

Bottom line make sure it is an EF lens and not an EFs lens and you will have no problems.
