How to record to imovie from digital camera (canon hf20)?
Aperture [383/1000]

I just bought the canon hf20 digital camera and I want to make movies of me talking/vlogging with it. I want to use it the same way my isight webcam works. I want to open imovie and record, just as i would with my webcam, but with the digital camera. I have googled and researched for days and can't figure it out.

The HF20 produces .MTS file format, belongs to (AVCHD) high-definition files.

iMoive supports well video files in .MOV, .MP4, DV, so try to change the HF20 video to one of those formats, and import into iMoive for editing.

whats a better digital camera Canon and Nikon for a photographer?
Hotel Henrosa Sign

Hello everyone im in a bit of a delema, im wanting to take up photograpy and m not sure which camera brand to get whether it's Nikon or Canon i've heard of canon alot but lots of people tell me to get nikon please help.

Go into a camera store that sells both. Then, hold both in your hands ... practice using them.

* Which is the easiest for you to use?
* Which menu is the easiest for you to navigate and make crucial changes while shooting.
* Which do you find the easiest to adjust aperture and shutter speeds while looking through the viewfinder ... without having to remove your eye from the it. (Action and sports photographers need this feature)

Lens choice really depends upon the type photography you tend to shoot. You will need to buy what you want at the time of purchase.

For most, the "dual dial" aperture/shutter speed feature on the Nikon's and the fit of the camera in the photographers hand sells the camera.

Which is the better camera: Canon PowerShot SX110 IS or Canon PowerShot SX10 IS?
Former Paris Theater Sign

I am looking at getting a new camera, have never really had a good one. I have narrowed it down to 2 different Canon's with the biggest difference being the 20X zoom on the SX10.
Now just hoping for some feedback on which is better.

I'd get the SX10. It is more of an "all-in-one nearly DSLR" camera compared to the SX110 which is a "superzoom point and shoot +" camera.

You will be able to do more things closer to a DSLR with the SX10 than you would with the SX110. Having an eye level viewfinder helps in high zoom situations, it's much easier to find your subject using the eye piece rather than searching for it at arms length.

BUT if all you are going to do is shoot casual snapshots and 99% of your shooting is in "green" mode, you will not miss the additional features of the SX10 over the SX110.

Note:
1. The SX10 uses 4xAA batteries while the SX110 uses only two
2. The SX10 is more than double the weight of the SX110
3. The SX10 viewing screen is only 2.5" compared to 3" for the SX110

I have a Canon SD 1000, I work with photo ID's for a living. What camera settings will work best?
Bridge Tenders House Miami River 1939

Camera: Canon SD 1000
Because of my job I have to take pictures of photo ID's (Drivers licenses, State ID cards, school ID cards etc.) to keep on file. Does anyone know what settings will be best on this camera. 9 times out of 10 the pictures are taken indoors.

The key is lighting (no pun intended!), not the settings. Are you using multiple flashes? I'll assume not

You'll want adequate depth of field, but on a point and shoot cam you don't have to worry too much about it.

If you want shots that are consistent, then shoot in manual mode. You should be able to choose a pretty big aperture (low number). F/2.8 - F/4 should be fine.

Shutter speed should be pretty quick, but not at the expense of a very high ISO. Keep the ISO between 100 - 200 for good results. Shutter speed shouldn't drop below 1/60th for good crisp images. Better yet up around 1/100th - 1/200th.

Work on lighting, see if you can diffuse your flash (if you're using it).

How can I buy an install disc for a canon digital camera?
Old City Hall Miami Beach

A friend gave me their camera (canon powershot S410) but there was no install disc. I attempted to download software from canon.com but they only have updates. I was unable to download the software from their site.

You don't need the software. I have a cano A570IS and do not use the canon software. I have a new HP laptop with Vista, I just plug my camera in and put it in palyback/review mode and wait for a download box to come up. If that doesn't work for you then invest in an external USB card reader.

  • what is a better camera the canon powershot SX10 IS or the canon ...

For me Powershot SX10 IS is better.

The Canon SX10 IS is just what I was waiting for in a Canon point and shoot camera. Pro’s are is the 10 megapixels and the long 20 X zoom. The price won’t rob your wallet either. The photos I have taken are great, sharp and clear. The con’s I have to mention is that it doesn’t accept filters but I believe a company is working on making something fit. I’ve read on line actually that some folks are using a 52 mm filter but Canon says it wasn’t made to be used with filters. Also the program to download photos to your computer are not as easy as my Canon S-2 or XTi but that is not a big deal. You will be impressed with the pictures it takes.

    Canon Powershot SX10IS

It’s kind of like asking what’s better 2008 Toyota, 2003 Mercedes or 2009 Honda… You got the point – one of them is very much out of league, albeit a little bit aged…

And to answer the question – of course Canon 10D is far far better then the other two… It is a professional SLR camera that has excellent sensor, and options for great optics (you didn’t tell if it comes with a lens and what lens, but I am sure that almost any lens on 10D would be better than ones the other two come with)…
