would an amateur be able to operate a canon 1ds mark 3 camera?
Urban Lumberjack Attempt

having always wanted to own a great full frame camera i have recently come into a bit of money and am finally hoping to get one now the best camera i have had is the canon 450d which i am very pleased with but i would love to get that full frame camera i know this is one big jump but is it to big for me to operate this camera or should i be thinking more of the 5d mark 2
any help is greatly appreciated
regards
matt

Hello again.

I've answered your previous questions. If you want full frame and don't know if you need an EOS 1d or not then you don't.

Seriously. 4 grand £ is a lot for bragging rights. The 5D Mk2 is a fantastic camera. It will be easier to get along with and hold its value more should you ever sell.

Can you post what kind of photography you want to do?

We can recommend the best kit for your money. The 1 series really are sophisticated complex machines. They are great for people who understand stops, af types, metering and when to over-ride. They are not for first time buyers.

A 5D Mk2 is the best full frame camera for you.

PM me if you want more personal advice.

Unless you are making a living from photography a 1 series is a very expensive luxury. A 5Dmk2 uses the consumer interface which is designed to be user friendly for photographers from novice level to expert and pro.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera OR Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III SLR Camera for pro astrophotographer?
1Ds collage

My sister is an expert in astrophotography and we want to get her a camera for her birthday. We want to get her a SLR we just cant decide which one would suit her needs in photographing deep space objects.

I think the 5D M2 would be a good choice of camera.
I suggest you check to see what make and model of camera she currently uses just so you will have an idea of the equipment she has.
Then see if you camera choice will fit with the current equipment she already has.
If this is not a big problem and you just want to get her a new camera and a good lens, that is also a good choice.

Which is the best camera a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II ,Canon EOS 1D Mark III or a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III?
Canon EOS-1Ds MkII

I will be using the camera for Photographing African Wildlife

Firstly, since you will be doing african wildlife, the 1.3x crop factor of the 1D is actually an advantage since it effectively makes the same lenses functionally longer.

The 1D mkIII has autofocus design-defect issues that AFAIK still remain partly unresolved.

What is reason behind the lower part of full frame camera 36X24 such as Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III and Nikon D3S ?
Current Gear

Hello
I found most of full frame cameras 36X24mm have an additional lower part . These parts like the motors that were connected to the lower parts of old 135mm film cameras .Also i want to know that these DSLR full frame have different max resolution (25-12)MP. So what is the meaning of resolution ? and on what reasons it depends ?.Does the meanning of 12MP (4000X3000) means the dimension of max image in mm?Thanks

The grip section is kinda a throwback from the early days of motor drive when motors were rather large and needed it's own comparment. In the early days of the digital age much of the camera was contained in a this extended section attached to the bottom of the camera, this included a battery and a magnetic hard-drive. Now while minaturisation of technology has taken place, this bottom section has been kept for ergonomics.

It's easier to shoot a portrait shot with a vertical grip. While almost all SLR cameras (including modern motor drive 35mm SLRs such as the EOS 1V) will all accept an aditional battery or vertical grip which allows easier portrait shots.

12MP=12 million pixels. Now 4000x3000 is the dimensions of the frame in pixels, and therefore if you multiply these numbers you get 12,000,000 or 12 megapixels.

In fact there is no limit to the maximum size of the image in SI units. You could have an image that was a 4 kilometres wide, and each pixel would be around a metre in width, but this would be the perfect size if you wanted to show someone standing on the moon a picture.

  • Canon 1D & 1Ds RAW File Issues - Windows Live Photo & Video Blog ...

Important note to users of Canon 1D & 1Ds RAW files on Windows Vista

There is an issue with Canon RAW files that end in .TIF (which are limited to 1D & 1Ds cameras) on Windows Vista systems that do not have the Canon RAW codec. If a user adds metadata to one of these files, using the Windows Photo Gallery or the Windows Explorer, the file will be corrupted. This is because the Canon RAW files from these particular camera models appear to be standard TIFF files, and the Windows Imaging Component invokes the standard TIFF codec to handle them. The RAW files, while appearing to conform to the TIFF spec, are interpreted differently by the Canon Raw codec, and so the TIFF codec cannot handle them properly. The Photo Info tool is not impacted.

Microsoft and Canon have identified the issue and are testing a patch to address the problem. We will provide download information once the patch is released. In the meantime, it is recommended that users not import or add metadata to their 1D or 1Ds RAW files ending in .TIF using the Windows Photo Gallery or the Windows Explorer. Canon will be releasing their RAW codec for Windows Vista soon. When you install the Canon RAW codec, the Windows Imaging Component will invoke the Canon codec to handle these files correctly.
