I am trying to take photos in a specific ratio size to increase workflow for a our cataloging sessions for the internet. Our inventory display software requires that the photos be uploaded in 640 by 480 format. We do have a Batch image resizer through Photoshop but it would be so much better if we could take the photos in this size. I cannot find anything about this being an option for the Canon EOS 20D. The minimum size is far larger (and different ratio) than the size I need. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you in advance Tyler
Unfortunately, there is no option for the 20D to shoot in this low resolution. Also, the APS-C sized sensor is a different aspect ratio and the camera was never designed to do any kind of cropping or resizing operations. The thought was probably that Photoshop and similar apps do a much better job with their resizing algorithms than the relatively meager processor on the 20D could manage, which is really intended as an image capture device, not a image editing/manipulation one. Those features are found on a few lower quality digital cameras, however.
This is a video review of the Canon 20D. Launched in 2004, it's been around quite a while but its still a pretty capabable camera. This review ...
Highly recommended. I've only had it for a few months and have found it to be very versitile and very easy to operate. I bought after only having used a point & shoot Ricoh before and I found the basics were very easy to pick up. You'll be shooting in a variety of formats within minutes! I use it with either a 17-85mm or a 60mm 2.8 macro. It's also very good for playing back pics on the TV or PC instantly after a days outing.

Hi im wanting a camera for taking photographs of scenery in cumbria lake districts.
I'm new to it all. Is the Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR a good camera for this? I can get the body for £180.
Also what lens would I need for good photos of scenery/mountains etc. thanks.!
It's old, but definitely still potent. I'd rather have a 20D than any of the modern digital rebel/xxxD/xxD series. The 20D is in Canon's line of semi-professional cameras, and therefore brings you a great deal more useablility with it's robust alloy chassis, 5fps continuous drive, pentaprism viewfinder, secondary control wheel, and greater selection of custom functions including all important second curtain sync with onboard flash,
Originally the 20D usually is kitted with Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II which wasn't particularly spectacular lens. It isn't easy to operate, and wasn't particularly sharp and rather prone to vignetting and fringing was inconsistent.
Therefore it's best to buy the camera body only and team it with the Canon 17-40mm f4L or a 24-105mm f4L IS both are formidable lenses from Canon's L-series. Canon's EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS is also a decent lens, but isn't anywhere near as strong as the L's.
You could also consider either the Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6, Canon's EF-S 10-22, and Tokina 11-16mm lenses if you want extreme wide angle.
Also you may want a lens to pick a small bit of the environment out, and for that the 70-200mm f4L would do that job justice.
All of the lenses I've mentioned have distance scales, which are important to landscape photography, this allows you to focus on the hyperfocal point (you'll want to print out a hyperfocal chart from the internet) which maximises the area of the image that is acceptably focused.
Furthermore you should spend some money on a decent high quality tripod, capable of supporting around 5kg.

It has a flash lever prob though but I prob can getit fixed
It's a 3 year old model camera. It's second hand and with anything second hand you're taking a risk.
You can buy a 30D for only a few hundred dollars more or you can even buy a brand new Nikon D40 for less...
I've had the 10D recommended repeatedly but I see it is no longer available. The 20D runs $2000 with lens. I'd like to spend $800-$1100.
Can someone recommend an alternative to the 20D in that price range?
Thanks
Now I'm confused; This camera is almost $2000:

What on earth are you talking about?, the 20D was discontinued years ago and sells on eBay for about $500 or less!! (where on earth did you get the idea they are $2000??)
The alternative for your price range is the Canon 40D

Do not bother with the 10D, lovely cameras but difficult to find one these days with a low shutter count and they are incompatible with EF-S lenses.

Additional: That must be mistake, the price is completely wrong. I also notice that it is not Amazons price, it is 'Wall Street Photo's' price, selling through Amazon. You can buy a 50D and 70-200mm f/4 L lens for that price. Forget about the 20D completely, it is either a typo or they are trying to rip somebody off. look at the 40D or the 50D, the price the 40D is going for now is excellent, check out B&H for better prices (and 100% trustworthy)

Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon ...
I shoot with a Canon 20D and have used the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM telephoto zoom lens. I’ve always noticed the limitations of this lens when shooting amateur softball. I reviewed the lens lineup at the Canon website and decided on the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM Lens. Even so, I was apprehensive about the push/pull zoom system. Since this lens seems so expensive, I wanted to try it before I bought it. After renting the lens and using it over a weekend at a softball tournament, I knew this was the right lens for me.
This is a serious lens meant for serious photographers. Being an L lens, there is a lot more features and is manufactured with better materials. The construction is sturdy and consists of 17 elements in 14 groups. The fluorite and Super UD-glass elements largely eliminate the secondary spectrum. This lens is compatible with the Canon EF 1.4X II and 2X II telephoto extenders. The Canon EF 100-400mm lens weighs in at about 3 lbs/1,380g, and accepts 77mm filters. Be sure to get a good quality UV haze filter.
