I have one on its way from B&H Photo, where I buy most of my equipment. It sold for pennies less than $1300. If I had needed some advice or was concerned about service after the initial sale, I would have considered buying it from a local camera store. When you buy online, you have to wait while it is shipped and pay for shipping, but the price is sometimes better, sometimes lots better than local. Usually there is no sales tax from an Internet seller, so that helps defray the cost of shipping. Remember to check out the seller- any deal that sounds too good to be true, usually is.
My lens broken (canon 17-85 mm Is USM) body is working with another lenses, the problem occurs at 17 - 35 mm range , i think its about lens chip ...

You can use FD lenses on the EOS series of bodies with an adapter, but keep in mind:
-They'll be manual focus only.
-You'll have to change the f-stops manually.
-The camera's light meter can be thrown off.
-You won't be able to use program/auto or shutter priority modes; you'll have to use aperture priority or completely manual settings.
One version of the FD-to-EOS adapter is here:

Thanks to the responses I received I purchased a Canon 40D and a 70-300 mm lens. The camera was a "body only" (both items were purchased separately) so now I am wondering if I will be able to just thread the lens onto the body and start to shoot?

How does one contact a poster directly? It sounds like I will have to change lens depending on what I am shooting? I purchased the 70-300mm basically for high school sports. I take a lot of school photos and the football ones come out great with my Canon SLR but b-ball is lacking (too much blur). Now I guess I have to purchase another lens and switch back and forth if I want to use my new camera for everyday and sports? I have questions...you have answers....
Thanks again

It sounds like I will have to change lens depending on what I am shooting? I purchased the 70-300mm basically for shooting high school basketball games. The photos I took with my Powershot came out good for outdoor football but lousy for indoor b-ball.
OK I just purchased an 18-55mm lens based on these responses. Now...I am thinking that once I master this camera I will not return to my Powershot even outdoors so I would just change the lens depending on what I am shooting, is that correct? I have questions you have answers and thank you very much.
You can only respond in the "additional details" section or by contacting the poster directly.
I'd like to congratulate you on your choice of camera and lens. The 70-300mm is definitely the best non-L (not luxury series) telephoto you can get. When it comes you simply take the body cap off of the camera, the end cap off of the lens, line up the red dot with the red dot, push the lens in and then twist.
As for accessories to get, you're first going to want a second lens (this is what the first poster was implying). The 70-300mm is a great lens, but it only covers the telephoto range. This is great for taking pictures of far away things, but if you want photos of people or landscapes you're going to be quite limited. Keep in mind that the human eye sees at roughly 50mm so your lens is seeing less than the human eye, even at its widest. Anywho, you're going to want a lens with a focal length below 50mm. If you're on a budget I would say get the 18-55mm IS or the 50mm f/1.8. Another decent option is the 28-135mm. I, personally, really don't like the 17-85mm but you could check it out if you want.
As for other accessories, I would say none at this point (assuming you have a memory card). Well, you might want a bag, but other than that, none. At this point your goal is to learn how to use the camera and understand your personal photography style. Once you've done this you'll know in which areas your current setup is lacking. Once you know where you're being held back in terms of photography, you will then know which accessories you need to correct this. This approach will save you a lot of wasted money on unneeded accessories.
