Canon Camera Downloads

I was talking to a friend who told me that there is an official canon site where if I enter my Canon camera's serial number, I can download free guides on good picture-taking etc...

I admit defeat with the official Canon site! Can anyone tell me where to find and download from my PC drivers for the above camera I am running on the Vista platform and the installation CD does not appear to have the correct drivers. Many thanks

The Canon website for this camera (S500) http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro ller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=Downloa dDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=3228modeli d=9825 says that no Vista drivers are available for this camera, and infers that a driver for Vista may not be necessary.
To avoid download hassles, I suggest you buy a flash card reader that will accommodate the CF Card Type 1 storage card your camera uses and use that for your downloading. This is a fairly inexpensive accessory available from most stores that sell cameras and/or computers.

I recently had my computer cleaned out and my canon software got wiped out. I really need the software to transfer my stuff onto my computer for a school project. My cd software is at home (I'm hours away at college) and I was wondering if there was somewhere on the internet where I could download it. I looked and I couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

The software for the Canon is downloaded. Other cameras seem to be recognized by the same computer. Tried another computer--also didn't recognize it. The camera is charged, and I tried it with the camera turned on and turned off. What's up?

There are a couple things you can try. First make sure that your camera is turned on to the correct setting. There is usually one position on the on/off switch for taking photos, another for downloading. Try starting iPhoto first, sometimes it will find the camera for you. If you just download the Canon software without downloading the camera drivers, that may also be a problem.

Ok i have a Canon camera and my sisters have a kodak Camera and instead of downloading both soft wares can just use the Kodak soft ware to download pictures off your Camera??

While I don't have a Kodak camera or the software. I would say it is highly unlikely you can download off the Canon with Kodak software. I know my Pentax software won't recognize my Canon, I have both cameras.
