I have a couple of lenses from my Canon 35mm camera and have now purchased a new digital Canon rebel xti. Can I use the lenses from my old 35mm on a digital rebel xti?
It depends on what "35mm film camera" you have. If you have an old Canon FD-mount camera (which means Canon's manual focus cameras made before the 90s) you'll need an adapter:

If you have an EOS 35mm camera with EF-mount lenses then they should mount and work exactly like they're suppose to.
In any case, since the sensor of the XTi is smaller than a frame of film, there's a 1.6x crop factor that you have to take into account. A 28-80mm lens would be equivalent to a 44.8-128mm lens on the XTi.

I am planning to buy my first digital slr camera. In my small business I shoot approximately 60% id photos, 20% portraits and 20% other photos. Price is important but the quality of the camera comes first.
It just comes down to a personal preference, you can not go wrong with either DSLR. I am Canon user and I love my XTi.

My brother let me borrow his Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera for a trip and I'm not sure how to upload them onto my computer. My friend was telling me something about having to take out the memory card or something. Does anyone know?
I suspect your brother does this kind of thing with his camera all of the time and probably has everything necessary to do it. You should ask him how he does it and what equipment he uses which is information he will probably share with you. He'll have the software, the USB cable that will allow you to attach the camera to the computer, or a USB card reader which will allow you to download your images. No sense you buying more equipment like this if he's got it since it's his camera. If you're on vacation and your card is full and your brother is not around, take your camera to the nearest store to you that sells cameras or computers and buy an extra flash card. When you get back from your trip give him the extra flash card as thanks for letting you use his camera. I suspect he will be happy to download your images into his computer and then make CDs for you.

i have a digital rebel xti. will the canon's 50 mm made for film cameras fit onto my canon digital rebel xti? it has 58 mm threads...
Just to clarify the previous answers:
58mm is the filter size. It has nothing to do with the type of camera it will fit on.
What matters is the mount. IF the lens is an EF or EF-S mount it will fit on your XTi no problem.
If the lens is an FD mount you'll need an adapter. The downside of this is that you will only be able to focus manually and you'll also have problems with metering. In my opinion it's not worth the effort and if it is an FD lens you should just get the EF 50mm f/1.8 for $100.
I'm a begginer in photography and taking classes. The class requires us to have a 35 mm camera. I was thinking of purchasing a Canon AE-1 but heard somewhere that I can';t use my current lens. Thanks!
What you heard is right. The Canon AE1 uses the old FD mount and is not compatible with todays cameras. Canon changed to the EOS system in 1987. Any camera made from then on will work. Basically any Canon autofocus camera. Some cameras to look at would be any of the Canon Rebel film cameras or the Elan 7. Here is a link with a couple examples. I would look on Craigslist in your area first though. It is best to be able to see the camera before you buy it.

Daily Dose Of Reality: Canon vs. Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Today Canon and Nikon constantly battle for the top spot in the SLR market, while Olympus, Pentax, Sony, Panasonic and Sigma duke it out for a position in third. If you pay attention to the digital SLR press releases, you'll notice a pattern: when either Canon or Nikon announce a new camera designed to capture some niche aspect of the market, the other company is soon to release a camera to compete. While you are certainly welcome to try to determine which one has better "image quality" (an imprecise term that is the result of a variety of camera settings), experience using and reviewing photos from a wide range of both Canon and Nikon cameras has demonstrated to me that the photos captured by SLRs from both manufacturers are exceptional. Flexibility - if at some point in the future you decide you'd like a nice specialty lens (for wildlife or closeups or architecture), your choices with the D60 will be limited (if you'd also like the lens to autofocus) Cost...
