I have a canon xti now and I love it, but I was wondering if this would be a good camera to use for like weddings or portaits on a professional basis?
thanks tammy
It's not a camera for the professional user. But, with it's lens mount you can affix any number of pro L-series lenses, many of which are or can be quite a bit more expensive that the camera itself. This is actually a better situation to find yourself in, to be honest. You should always put the bulk of your investment in lenses anyway as a good pro lens will outlive all of your camera bodies for years to come. If you get into that type of investment, it really locks you into your brand so be sure you want to stick with canon before investing in pro glass. L glass can also make up for what the camera body lacks. For now, the only downside to your body is a lack of good ISO performance at higher sensitivities. You've got decent resolution already. As someone has already mentioned, the canon 5D would better suit the needs of a professional (or even non professional) as the increase in resolution from 10mp to 12mp and the benefit of higher pixel pitch from a full frame sensor in a more rugged body will make the job easier. But, less easy, the job can be done with what you've got given you make the necessary investment. Your kit lens will not likely be sufficient. It is possible, as all things are, to take your xti and kit lens and make a living. People these days seem to be less impressed with technical superiority than they are with cost. So if you can learn to make great images with what you've got, then more power to you. If you can afford it, look into a 24-70mm f/2.8L USM and a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. With those lenses, you're pretty close to being able to handle semi-pro jobs. They are about a $3000 investment together.

i currently have a Canon Rebel XTI camera, i am interested in becoming a photographer. i am looking for a telescopic lens or telescopic zoom lens but dont know what to buy. i am try to zoom in at stuff like a boat on the ocean or wild life. can ayone help me.
For a boat on the ocean or wildlife, you want to be in the 300mm or greater range. Check into the Canon 70-300 "IS" lens. It's over $500, but it's a decent lens for your purposes.

I am looking to buy a Canon Rebel Xti. Since I'm putting so much money into getting it anyway (for a hobby photographer anyway) I'd like to get an extended warranty as well. I've looked at a lot of retailers, but I can't decipher who has the best extended warranty and don't have the experience to know who'd be the easiest to deal with if I had to have a repair made.
Best Buy definitely does not have the best pricing, but they do have a good extended warranty plan.
Also, Costco has an amazing return policy...

My brother let me borrow his Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera for a trip and I'm not sure how to upload them onto my computer. My friend was telling me something about having to take out the memory card or something. Does anyone know?
I suspect your brother does this kind of thing with his camera all of the time and probably has everything necessary to do it. You should ask him how he does it and what equipment he uses which is information he will probably share with you. He'll have the software, the USB cable that will allow you to attach the camera to the computer, or a USB card reader which will allow you to download your images. No sense you buying more equipment like this if he's got it since it's his camera. If you're on vacation and your card is full and your brother is not around, take your camera to the nearest store to you that sells cameras or computers and buy an extra flash card. When you get back from your trip give him the extra flash card as thanks for letting you use his camera. I suspect he will be happy to download your images into his computer and then make CDs for you.
I have a couple of lenses from my Canon 35mm camera and have now purchased a new digital Canon rebel xti. Can I use the lenses from my old 35mm on a digital rebel xti?
It depends on what "35mm film camera" you have. If you have an old Canon FD-mount camera (which means Canon's manual focus cameras made before the 90s) you'll need an adapter:

If you have an EOS 35mm camera with EF-mount lenses then they should mount and work exactly like they're suppose to.
In any case, since the sensor of the XTi is smaller than a frame of film, there's a 1.6x crop factor that you have to take into account. A 28-80mm lens would be equivalent to a 44.8-128mm lens on the XTi.
