Yes, a successor to the 400D is due in February. It will (most likely) be announced during the PMA show which is held between Jan 31st-Feb 2nd in Las vegas...
The successor (450D?) will probably have at least 12MP and maybe live view.
So you need to be just a little patient ( for about 12-14 days at the very least).

I just bought a DSLR eos 450D canon camera. I was given a free UV filter. But I am not sure how to fix it to my lens. Can some one tell me how to, or give me any website where there are instructions. Do i have to twist my lens or something so that i can attach the UV filter. Pls help.. thank you..

The filter should simply just screw onto the front of the lens. Clockwise for on and anti-clockwise to remove it.

So I am into photography and in a couple classes and I finally feel ready to get a DSLR camera. I was thinking of getting a canon but I am open to nikon too, I also would like video with it which would make my price range pretty expensive. The highest I would spend would be 1300, I am not looking for the "best" and most "professional" camera just one that is good quality and an overall good camera. So any suggestions?

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start for around $550 to $1100. Either a 12MP or 15MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links where you can look up reviews and see what camera works best for you.

The first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 4 DSLR cameras that can also do HD video that I am recommending you compare. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras.

Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some of these dealers are including some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the “add to cart” button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching with estimated prices:

Of a quick side note: I am a Nikon user, but think all three cameras are excellent. I like that the Nikon D5000 has the movable LCD screen, that would seem to be valuable in doing video. I am very intrigued by the Pentax K-x partly because it does HD video but also because of how impressive it seems to work at high ISO settings which can be great help in low light situations (see the photo.net link below). Do some research, I would ask some questions in the discussion forums at photo.net where photographers can share their experiences and samples of their work.

Hope this helps. Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images. I am going to stay at St. Louis Hotel Renaissance (800 Washington Avenue) and I am interested in buying a Canon DSLR camera, but the closest Best Buy and Circuit City are around 20 miles far! Do you know if there is any camera or electronics shop nearby?? Or a Mall?? Thanks for the help.

I am sure there is somewhere downtown - I will find out and get back with you. Downtown St. Louis is pretty alive with specialty shops. If you want a cheaper price - Best Buy would be good. Actually there is a Best Buy really close by subway/rail from where you are staying. They are located in Brentwood.

Directions: Walk east on Washington Avenue (your hotel is at 8th and Washington) - walk to 6th and Washington - you will see four subway stations [Convention Center Station] and take the WESTBOUND entrance. Once you get into the subway station... buy your ticket and take the WESTBOUND SHREWSBURY TRAIN - It must be a Shrewsbury Line Train (they will say Shrewsbury on the side of th trains - watch head signs) - the Shrewsbury Trains arrive every 10 minutes. Ride this train (do not transfer) and it will take you to the "BRENTWOOD I-64 STATION" - it is about a 15 minute ride and once you get off the train there - you will see Best Buy right in front of you - it is a big new store in this "uptown" area of the city. To return downtown take the EASTBOUND TRAIN back to downtown. At this station you will just want to take any EASTBOUND train - they all with take you downtown again within 15 minutes back to the Convention Center Station.

It's easy! SAFE and Fast.
