What you say is the market value of a used Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D DSLR camera body only?
Mevagissey 08-10-2007

Also, what would you say is the market value of the Nikon D40 and D60b(used)? Your opinion is fine but sources would be appreciated.
I would appreciate NUMBERS. Cheap/expensive don't help out a lot. Those are all SUBJECTIVE. I wan't an OBJECTIVE answer.

A quick way to test the value of anything is to use Ebay's Advanced Search next to the usual search window. Enter 'Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D' into the search window. Make sure the 'Completed Listings Only' box is checked it will return a list of all the listings in the last month or so, what price they fetched and wheter they sold or not.

Just done a quick list in the UK site and got one which sold for £565.00 !! Due to the lenses that were included not the camera, but usually they go for around the £200.00 mark.

Suggestion for a canon digital camera?
Mevagissey 08-10-2007

Hi guys!

I'm planning on a getting a canon digital camera (i alr have my dslr hehe) and the canon digital camera is for me and my family to share :) Yeap!

Any ideas or suggestions which one i should get?

Canon's latest EOS 7D mid-range DSLR is a pretty good option. It sports an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, 19 point auto-focus system, an intelligent viewfinder, and 8 frames per second shooting.

Additionally, it includes Canon's Dual DIGIC 4, an advanced imaging processor, which is the real engine behind EOS 7D's efficient and high resolution photography.

If DSLR is not in your wish list, you can buy a Canon PowerShot or a more stylish Canon IXUS camera. IXUS range of Canon cameras is slimmer, has all the latest features, and looks elegant in hands.

Which DSLR camera is better, Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT 350D or XTi 400D?
Mevagissey 08-10-2007

I am a beginner of photography and taking a summer class this summer. I heard these are the best and I know the XTi is the newer of the two, but they each have pros and cons.

I like the XTi much better. I've used both, and I'd definitely say that the XTi is worth the little extra money, bigger screen, self cleaning sensor, body doesn't scratch as easily. Essentially the XT is pretty much the same thing, so if you're running a bit on a budget don't hesitate to get the XT. As a student always keep in mind that you should invest more of your money in lenses and not on the camera body. While Camera bodies are constantly being upgraded lenses will hold their value for years to come.

I'd also like to note that the kit lens is an okay starter lens, but I wouldn't recommend it at all. Although it keeps the camera resale value higher, I personally would've just bought body only and couple it with the cheap 50mm f/1.8 lens for it.

I.m torn between buying a Canon DSLR EOS 1000D camera and a Nikon D90 Digital camera.?
Mevagissey 08-10-2007

I know the latter is dearer , but is it the best?

The latter is indeed more expensive and a better camera in many ways. But my question is, do you know why you would prefer the D90? And if you are looking that much higher in the Nikon product line, why not consider the Canon equivalent as well? Specifically, the closest Canon equivalent to the D90 is the EOS 50D or possibly the 500D but certainly not the 1000D which is the most basic of current Canon DSLRs.

If you haven't done so already, check out DPReview (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_ post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=c anon_eos50d%2Ccanon_eos500d%2Ccanon_eos1 000d%2Cnikon_d90%2Cnikon_d3000%2Cnikon_d 5000&show=all) to do a little more research and compare cameras. The supplied link provides a side-by-side comparison of all the aforementioned cameras as well as a couple Nikon's you haven't mentioned that are a bit cheaper than the D90. Canon and Nikon don't really have any "bad" DSLRs but some certainly are better than others depending on what you want/need from the camera. For instance, if you want/need video but would prefer something cheaper than the D90, Nikon's on D5000 and the Canon Rebel T1i (EOS 500D) are both cheaper while offering similar performance in most respects.

The D90 is indeed a great camera but, if I were looking to buy a Nikon with video and decent speed, I'd probably consider the cheaper D5000. If the D5000 is too slow or doesn't offer the build quality you need, I'd skip the D90 and go straight to the D300s. However, this is not an insignificant leap in price. The $1000 price difference will buy one or two very nice lenses. But the same can be said of the $300 price difference between a Canon EOS 1000D.

My suggestion is one you'll hear from others...Take an SD card to your local camera store after you've narrowed your choices down to just a couple models. If it's the 1000D and D90 then sobeit. But, the first criteria is which feels best in your hands. I think all the Rebels are entirely too small but I thnk th D90 is too small as well, thus I prefer the 50D. You may find the D90 is just right.

Next, you need to examine which is easiest for you to use. How quickly/easily can you adjust shutter, aperture, white balance, ISO, and exposure compensation. I think the D90, with it's rear command dial, is much easier/faster to use in this regard than any of the basic Canon or Nikon cameras. That said, I find Canon menus easier to navigate when configuring the camera for my preferences. Again, you might feel differently but, you need to form your own opinion. Now, the reason I suggested taking SD cards is that you should be shooting with these cameras while making the adjustments mentioned earlier as necessary. When you are done shooting, take the SD card home and open the resulting images on your computer. Decide for yourself which camera produced photos you liked best. You'll make your own decision.

Is it a good idea to buy a 6 MP used canon digital SLR camera?
Mevagissey 08-10-2007

I am an amateur photographer and shoot only occasionally. I don't want to invest too much money in a new digital SLR, so i thought a used Canon DSLR might be a good alternative. The problem is, that used cameras have much lower megapixels than new ones. Will I get reasonable quality with a 6 MP camera (low noise in night shots, enough details when printing 4"X6" 5"X7" photos)?

I work in a photography and have several canons, one being a canon eos 2000 film and a rebel xs 10 mp. Most people will never use over 5mp which equals about a 8x10 picture with clear detail and no distortion or pixelation. Your camera will do the job and do it well.
