I am looking into buying a Canon digital camera. I have been looking for one compatible with my lens. I have a EF 28-200 lens for my EOS 500 model. Are the EF lenses compatible with the Canon digital Rebel's? If not, do they have a camera compatible with EF lenses?
It is an Auto focus lens. The model type is the EF.

Your lens will work on ALL Canon dSLR cameras. Just note that a few Canons have a so called focal length multiplier.
With the digital Rebel line (300D, 350D, and 400D), as well as with the 20D and 30D, you lens will appear to be magnified by a factor 1.6. Instead of seeing 28-200mm through the viewfinder, you'll get 45-320mm. This is because these models have sensors that are smaller than a frame of 35mm film. So if you were considering any of these cameras, know that you'll lose wide angle coverage with your current lens. The perfect all-in-one for these models is an 18-125mm zoom (effectively 29-200mm) or even an 18-200mm (effectively 29-320mm). You could also consider hanging on to the 28-200 and adding an inexpensive Canon 18-55mm to regain wide-angle if you really miss it.
The Canon 5D and 1Ds Mk2 have full-frame sensors and 'suffer' no such magnification.

Just remember that there are EF & EF-S lenses.
EF will fit any digital SLR while the EF-S will only fit the DSLR that are not full frame (it will have a white square on the lens mount)

I have an old canon ( A-1 series just before the FT and EF series) and wish to know if there is a digital camera or mount that will fit some of the zoom , wide angle lenses that could be used with an A-1 Canon Camera ?

Canon FT and FD mounts will not work with any DSLR (you can adapt and mount, but with no metering... what's the point?)

Minolta/Sony did the same thing .... MC and MD mounts will not work either.

Nikon you can mount older AI/AI-S series on a D200/D2xs and meter but not on D80/70 or lower.

Olympus Evolt series will mount older OM lenses with a $100 adapter from Olympus. I do not know if the meter runs active.

Pentax can mount and meter off A series, and can step-down meter with M and S series.

So depending upon which system you invest in as to how much compatibility with older lenses you have. Don't worry though, those systems that changes their mounts have autofocus versions of most the manual lenses out there.

Reason is as I was testing my used Canon EF Autofocus 35-70mm lens on my Canon 650 and the Canon Rebel, While looking from an angle into the inside of the lens to look at the movement of the aperature opening, I do not see it open or close when lens' Autofocus is set and the camera shutter clicked. Is the lens damaged or No good or Do these EF lenses automatically are supposed to be like that as the cmaera automatically set the shutter speed without having to adjust the aperature opening. I am not sure if my lenses are in good working condition or if they are damaged at this point. THANKS for your help.

Of course the aperture blades should stop down. Perhaps you did your test with the widest aperture setting. Or you blinked at the wrong time.
Try again, this time on full manual, with an aperture setting of F8, and a shutter speed of 1/4. Look straight into the lens.
