Canon Elph Camera

When I try to take a picture with my Canon Digital Elph PowerShot SD1000 camera, the screen is black. The camera still flashes and takes a photo, and you see the photo after you take it. But the screen is blank as you're clicking the button so you can't see your subject. If anyone has this camera or has experience with these kind of things, please help.

Press the "Disp." button. It's on the back at the bottom-right next to the "menu" button.

I have a canon powershot SD30 digital elph/
if it can, how do you make it a webcam?

The answer to this VERY common question is nearly always "No".

Read your manual - if it was possible, you can be sure your manual would tell you how to do it.

Even if you COULD find the necessary drivers, software etc, why would you even WANT to use your still camera (think of all the wear and tear on camera and batteries), when a $20 web cam does a perfectly wonderful job of it and can remain all hooked up and ready to use?

I tried this before on a different camera and when I hooked it up to my computer, the deleted photos were still coming up. What do you do to permanently remove them?

The answer is yes and no. When you delete a file off a memory card, the camera will erase the pointer to the file, much like erasing a chapter from the table of contents for a book. The chapter may still be in the book, but if it's not listed in the table of contents, a reader can't find it.

So, in that sense, the file is gone. However, digital recovery software can recover the file, much like a reader can find a chapter in a book by simply flipping pages until you see the missing chapter. So, the deleted file could in theory be recovered unless overwritten.

I need to buy an SD card for a Canon Elph camera as a xmas gift. Do I have to specifically get a Canon card? I saw some SD cards in a store's flyer that are a generic brand. Do all cards fit and work in all cameras? Thanks!

You can get any SD card. The brand name of the SD doesn't really matter. Matter of fact there SDHC memory cards today. These are SD high capacity memory card. You Canon Elph can use both SD or SDHC memory card regardless of their brand name or manufacturer.

There's No Need To Do That..

when you plug in a camera, you aren't only able to take the pictures off the camera from the canon software. You can use windows super-easy software, no long reading, and complication to experience.
