reviews on: CANON EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera with Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens - 10.1 mp. Quick Please :-)?
Canon EOS 1000D

I'm looking to get the CANON EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera with Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens - 10.1 mp, I only have £400 to spend and this looks like the best camera. Could you review if you have this camera.
Thanks

Here's a review that hasn't been given. I own a 1000D and find it a versatile, easy to use, very well built camera that yields superb photos.

I use three lenses with mine, the kit at 18-55, a Tamron 18-200 and a Canon 75-300.

Further review is here. Read my notes please because not all of these were taken with my Canon.
Be aware I'm having excellent luck with night / time exposures, day time colors are brilliant and the camera is very easy and quick to operate - but, you've got to read the book and keep it handy for little questions that always seem to come up.

The first 3 shots I took with my Fuji 9000. Good Luck

Canon EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera

Canon EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera

which is better? canon EOS 1000D digital SLR camera or 500D?

my friend has the 1000D, but today another friend told me that the 500D is good. i need one with a fast shutter speed, because i mainly take action shots.

If it is action shots you are after then I would avoid any of the amateur 'Rebel' series of Canon bodies. For the price of the 500D you can buy a Canon 40D. I use one myself and after upgrading from a 350D (which I loved) I could never go back to the Rebel series.

The 40D has a very fast frame rate (6.5f/s), better AF system, faster AF system, much better build quality (magnesium alloy body and larger grip), larger and brighter pentaprism viewfinder compared to the tiny dark pentamirror viewfinders in the 1000D/500D bodies, higher ISO settings, faster shutter speeds, twice the battery life, etc etc...

I could go on, but I am sure you get the idea. Forget the entry level amateur bodies, if it is speed you are after then there is no doubt that you are better off with a semi-pro 40D. And if you are looking at a 500D (I would seriously not bother with this camera) then you can certainly afford a 40D.

Go into a store, handle them all and you will see exactly what I mean.

+++++++

Additional..

Frames Per Second

1000D - 3 f/s
500D - 3.4 f/s

40D - 6.5 f/s

Max Shutter Speed

1000D - 1/4000 s
500D - 1/4000 s

40D - 1/8000 s

Price (body) (UK Jessops)

1000D - £349
500D - £789

40D - £599

+++++++

So you have a choice.. a plastic bodied, slower amateur entry level body with a small viewfinder and less spec. Or a far better Semi pro model with far better specs and built for speed (this body was made for action shots)

I will leave the choice up to you, it seems obvious to me, hell I would rather have a 20D than a 500D, just for the ergonomics and large viewfinder alone.

Can you recommend a macro lens for the Canon Digital SLR Camera EOS 1000D?

I need it urgently really. I want a macro lens so I can take photographs close-up of bugs and flowers for my coursework. I have no idea what spec I need, etc. I know basically nothing about this. Thanks so much to any answerers.

The perfect partner for your camera is the EFs 60mm f2.8 macro lens.

Sharp and relatively quick to focus (macros are usually very slow) and it will also double as a good protrait lens.

If you want to keep your options for full frame open look either at the older Canon EF 50mm f2.5 or the Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro.

All excellent. If you are sticking with cropped sensor cameras for the forseeable future the Canon EFs 60mm is probably the one to go for:

Canon EOS 1000D(Rebel XS) (SLR) or Fuji HS10 (SLR-Like)?

I want to bu a digital camera about 500-600 $
please help me to choose between Canon EOS 1000D(Rebel XS) (SLR) and Fuji HS10 (SLR-Like)?????
I want to buy a digital camera about 500-600 $
my reason to buying this camera is semi-professional photography
I want to photograph with a full manual setting
please help me to choose between Canon EOS 1000D(Rebel XS) (SLR) and Fuji HS10 (SLR-Like)

With the Fuji HS10 you are stuck with using the lens that is permanently attached. With the Canon XS you can change lenses to suit the conditions.

The permanently attached lens on the Fuji HS10 is a 4.2-126mm (24-720mm 35mm equivalent) with a maximum aperture of f2.8 at the wide end (4.2mm) and f5.6 at the long end (126mm). Although this is fine for shooting outdoors or even indoors with flash, its a poor choice for shooting in low-light without a flash.

With the Canon XS you can mount a 50mm f1.4 lens and be good to go in low-light where you can't - don't want to - use a flash. At f1.4 the Canon 50mm lens is two stops faster than the f2.8 of the HS10 lens at 4.2mm and four stops faster than the f5.6 of the HS10 lens at 126mm.

The HS10 has a tiny sensor which makes it a poor performer at higher ISOs and in low-light. At 6.16mm x 4.62mm its 11.5 times SMALLER than the 22.2mm x 14.8mm sensor of the XS. With 10.3mp in a tiny sensor each individual pixel is very tiny while the 10.0mp of the XS are 11.5 times bigger. This means far superior performance in low light at high ISO settings.

In my opinion you'd be wise to buy the Canon XS.

For an in-depth look at the importance of a larger sensor with larger pixels I suggest this article:

  • Digital SLR Duel: Canon EOS 1000D vs Nikon D3000 - DigitalVersus

They might not be five-star products, but since Pentax did away with its K-m, the Canon EOS 1000D and Nikon D3000 have been bitter rivals.  These are the entry-level digital SLRs from two heavyweights of the photography world.  Despite costing almost exactly the same, they're actually very different cameras: the EOS 1000D, for instance, is almost two years old, while the D3000 has barely been available for six months. Both are aimed at photographers who are used to the ease of compact point-and-shoot cameras: they're designed to be simple to use, but powerful enough to produce photos that match what you'd expect from an SLR.  It's not enough to forget about the basics just because you're producing an entry-level option, after all.  To do that--and to save costs--they reuse components and systems developed for more advanced cameras.
