I am trying to take photos in a specific ratio size to increase workflow for a our cataloging sessions for the internet. Our inventory display software requires that the photos be uploaded in 640 by 480 format. We do have a Batch image resizer through Photoshop but it would be so much better if we could take the photos in this size. I cannot find anything about this being an option for the Canon EOS 20D. The minimum size is far larger (and different ratio) than the size I need. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you in advance Tyler
Unfortunately, there is no option for the 20D to shoot in this low resolution. Also, the APS-C sized sensor is a different aspect ratio and the camera was never designed to do any kind of cropping or resizing operations. The thought was probably that Photoshop and similar apps do a much better job with their resizing algorithms than the relatively meager processor on the 20D could manage, which is really intended as an image capture device, not a image editing/manipulation one. Those features are found on a few lower quality digital cameras, however.
This is a video review of the Canon 20D. Launched in 2004, it's been around quite a while but its still a pretty capabable camera. This review ...
I have the opportunity to buy either one of these for about the same price, the EOS 20D though has two lenses included, cleaning kit, filters, etc. The Rebel comes with the kit lens strap, and everything typically included with the kit. So I am curious as to which camera body is actually better.
I haven't used the 20D but I use it's predecessor the 10D daily for my business. It has been an absolute tank. Tank = good. I can tell you that any "rebel" model is a consumer model. Any "D" model is going to be geared towards more professional use. What does that mean? It means when you pick up a 10D, 20D, 30D, etc. and then you pick up a Rebel you will instantly see that the Rebel is more "plasticky" vs. the D series cameras. The D series cameras are going to be water resistant and built to withstand elements and harsher use much more than the Rebels do. Are the Rebels good cameras? Sure they are. Will the D series cameras last longer and hold value better. If they don't it's only because so many consumers don't know much about them and they aren't as prevalent as the Rebels are among consumers. For durability go with the D series camera bodies. The Rebel XS is a 10.1 mp vs. the 20D's 8.2 so that may make a bit of difference to you if you just have to have those extra 2 mp. But compare the XS or XSi prices with the 30D too. The 6.2 mp 10D I shoot with now can be bought for $200 all day long. When released it was around $2000 so any digital eventually plummets. Some very nice cameras that were extremely pricey when released can be had for very nice prices. Ask about "actuation" count when you buy one. You can do google searches for estimated shutter life on differing models. Seems the D series shutters are rated better than the Rebels but I've not checked it in a long time.
Go to Canons site and you can compare about anything they sell. Here are some links for the two you're inquiring about.

Hi im wanting a camera for taking photographs of scenery in cumbria lake districts.
I'm new to it all. Is the Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR a good camera for this? I can get the body for £180.
Also what lens would I need for good photos of scenery/mountains etc. thanks.!
It's old, but definitely still potent. I'd rather have a 20D than any of the modern digital rebel/xxxD/xxD series. The 20D is in Canon's line of semi-professional cameras, and therefore brings you a great deal more useablility with it's robust alloy chassis, 5fps continuous drive, pentaprism viewfinder, secondary control wheel, and greater selection of custom functions including all important second curtain sync with onboard flash,
Originally the 20D usually is kitted with Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II which wasn't particularly spectacular lens. It isn't easy to operate, and wasn't particularly sharp and rather prone to vignetting and fringing was inconsistent.
Therefore it's best to buy the camera body only and team it with the Canon 17-40mm f4L or a 24-105mm f4L IS both are formidable lenses from Canon's L-series. Canon's EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS is also a decent lens, but isn't anywhere near as strong as the L's.
You could also consider either the Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6, Canon's EF-S 10-22, and Tokina 11-16mm lenses if you want extreme wide angle.
Also you may want a lens to pick a small bit of the environment out, and for that the 70-200mm f4L would do that job justice.
All of the lenses I've mentioned have distance scales, which are important to landscape photography, this allows you to focus on the hyperfocal point (you'll want to print out a hyperfocal chart from the internet) which maximises the area of the image that is acceptably focused.
Furthermore you should spend some money on a decent high quality tripod, capable of supporting around 5kg.

It has a flash lever prob though but I prob can getit fixed
It's a 3 year old model camera. It's second hand and with anything second hand you're taking a risk.
You can buy a 30D for only a few hundred dollars more or you can even buy a brand new Nikon D40 for less...
I'm trying to find a PDF copy of the Canon EOS 20D camera manual in German, but I'm only seeing the English, Spanish, and French versions... can someone help me find it in German? Thanks!!

A positive, even for a beginner in photography, is that both types of cameras can print directly to compatible printers. This is for ease of sharing photos with family and friends and let alsoHelp reduce the cost of printing the photograph can be so expensive, a developer of film. So many options are the same on both cameras are too many to list them all.
Since these two cameras are similar in many ways, their differences may be the most important cameras in the choice between these two types of
