Is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI and a Canon EOS 400d the same camera?
(Untitled)

I was looking into getting a canon EOS 400d, but everytime i search for it in google and such the only thing that comes up is the canon eos digital rebel XTI. is it basically the same camera with a different name, or what? its just really confusing me.

Yes, In USA it is called an XTi while in the rest of the world it is called 400D.

Canon eos 400d Digital SLR camera?
Unpredictable

Has anyone got this camera?

http://www.digital-cameras.com/xpp-canon _eos_400d_ef_s_18_55mm_lens.html

or any of its predecessors? I am looking at buying it, and would like to know what you think of the camera in general. Would you reccommend it? Bad points? Good points?

Thanks to all that answer

I have had one for over a year now and love it! This was my first digital SLR camera. I had several film and digital compact cameras before, but this is in an entirely differently class.

I would definitely recommend the camera, but if you have never owned a SLR camera, you may be disappointed at first. There is a learning curve and your first shots might not turn out any better than those from any cheap compact. The 400d has several standard "modes" just like compact cameras, but it really shines when used in "manual".

You will need some type of imaging software to make the most of you shots, and Canon includes its Digital Photo Professional in the box. You may eventually want to move onto Photoshop or something similar.

The Rebel 400d takes "CF" cards, and you will need to purchase one as Canon does not include one. At least you won't have to buy film!

One of the best things about the Rebel is the ability to change lenses. It will take any of Canon's EF or EF-S format lenses, or any compatible 3rd party lens (Sigma, Tamron, others). Mine came with the EF-S 18-55mm zoom. This is a nice lens but you will soon find yourself wanting another, then another. (They can get expensive, and I mean really expensive.)

Overall, about the only thing I don't like about my Rebel is it tends to slightly under-expose images, but this can be adjusted on the camera, or later in Photoshop. I don't think you can go wrong with it, but the Rebel 450d is out and it offers a "live view" LCD and higher resolution. (megapixels - but don't equate more megapixels with a better camera. The previous Rebel XT 350d was only 8Mp, but some say may take cleaner, less noisy images. It would also not be a bad choice.)

Will my old Canon EOS 500 lense work on the Digital EOS 400D camera?
400D, Tamron 17-50 2.8

I want to buy a Canon EOS 400 digital SLR camera and i heard that Canon lenses are reverse compatible. I have 2 lenses that fit my EOS 500 35mm film camera and just wanted to know if they would work on the digital camera. I would also like some advise that IF they did work would they work as well as the one that would come with the camera. Thanks

Nikon's crop factor is 1.5x with some dSLRs- Canon's is 1.6, so a lens on your film camera with an angle of view of 30mm will now be closer to 48mm and on a 200mm lens, it becomes closer to a 320mm lens. So the answer is yes they will work, but you will lose the wide angle capability of your lenses, but at the tele end, you gain.

What's the differance between the Canon EOS 400D Rebel XTi & Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR Camera?
Goanna at Healesville Sanctuary

I really enjoy photography and I want to pursue it professionally. I want to get a really nice camera with all the best quality tricks-of-the-trade. However, I am having a difficult time making a decision on which to get. I prefer the Classic Canon brand. Have any recommendations?

EOS400 is an amatuer camera.
EOS 5D is closer to a Pro camera.
I'll choose the 5D because it has a full frame chip (same size as 35mm) thus, 16mm lens is 16mm and not (16x1.63)mm, Ability for shallower depth of field, etc. Generally, a full frame camera has the capabilities to create better pictures.
Setback of the 5D:
Besides being more pricey than 400D, the burst speed is not great, making it a not-so-good camera for photography that requires speed, ie. sports photography.
