..Or would I have to buy lenses for it, in order to use it? =)
Sadly, you will need a lens attached to your camera body. If only everything was as cheap as in the point-and-shoot market, right?
The advantage, though, is being able to use different lenses for different shooting situations. I shoot with a 30D and try to get the best quality shots from a smaller budget (college student).
Lenses I would highly recommend:
Canon 50mm f/1.8 (f/1.4 if you have the money) = produces incredibly sharp images with good pictures in low light; the f/1.4 is one of my favorite lenses :)
Oh, by the way, f-numbers indicate aperture (the hole which light enters your camera through the lens). The lower the number, the bigger the opening. Bigger opening = brighter pictures & blurrier backgrounds
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 = amazing wide-angle lens (for those landscape shots) which zooms to a normal telephoto focal length. It's great for low-light conditions too and only costs $400! My favorite newest acquisition :)
You can see sample shots using these two lenses on my website, http://newdra24.deviantart.com.
I hope this has helped! Happy shooting!

ok, so i know i've been asking alot of questions on here but i want to make sure i make the right investment. i am going to be taking pictures of metal parts ranging from 3inches to 3 feet and they will be going in a company's magazine and catalog. i want them to be sharp and accurate so that a customer could fully evaluate a part by a photograph. so which one should i go with? i am already going to get the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens, but i am having second thoughts about which camera to get. i was originally going to get the XSi because of the lower price, but i figured since the XSi i am looking at is around $900 with lens and the 40D is $900 body only, and since i am going to get another lens anyway, maybe its in my best interest to get the 40D? is the 40D considered alot better than the XSi and is it what i need for what i am doing? i have done alot of research but am still stuck on which camera to get....thanks for all the help!
Naturally, Canon EOS 40D is much superior that EOS 450D (w/c i have one Ü)
12.2mp of 450D doesn't mean much than 10mp of 40D. as long as you get a good lens, the image is much more superior.
Canon 450 D Compared to Canon EOS 40D
Canon has begun a habit of trumping the resolution of its semi-pro DSLRs with the latest budget models. The 400D / XTi came out with 10 Megapixels to the EOS 30D’s 8, and now the 450D / XSi has 12 to the 40D’s 10. The 450D / XSi also shares some of the 40D’s processing capabilities, including 14-bit A-D conversion and Highlight Tone Priority, along with the same 3in screen and PC remote control software, while coming in at a lower list price and lighter weight. This doesn’t make the 450D / XSi a better camera though. It may have two extra Megapixels, but the EOS 40D remains a superior DSLR overall for the following reasons.
In its favour, the EOS 40D features far superior build quality and handling, although it is bigger and heavier as a result. It’s tougher, features better sealings against the weather, boasts 6.5fps continuous shooting to the 450D / XSi’s 3.5fps, has a bigger, brighter viewfinder with optional focusing screens, a PC sync port for external lighting, along with optional Wifi and GPS connectivity. It’s a far more professional camera, and worth spending the extra if you want or need the quicker and tougher handling. Indeed when Canon offers its rebate schemes, the price difference can be surprisingly small.
Price:
$69.99
$34.38

I reallllly want this camera and I only have enough to buy it as body only. how much does a lens run for and is it absolutely necessary to have the lens right away
glad you asked. I was just about to post a question on here about lenses for that camera.
I own the 40D myself and it's an outstanding camera. The kit lens, 28-135mm, is a piece of crap and I have NEVER heard of anyone using it. Almost everyone buys another lens for the 40D.
So I would highly recommend the body only for the 40D and buying other lenses. Oh, you're short on money and want to know which lenses to buy? I'm glad you asked. : )
The 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. You have no zoom, but it is super fast and great for portraits. stand about 6 feet away and point at subjects face and you get their shoulders and head. Also, great for indoors because at f/1.8 you don't need as much light. Best part: this lens can be found on amazon for $80 USD.
A cheap zoom lens is the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6. That's the kits lens for the rebel, but it's not that great either. without IS (if you can find it) it's about $60-80 USD also. with IS it's more like $150.
A cheap telephoto zoom lens is the 55-250mm f/3.5-5.6 with IS. That lens takes better quality pictures for a great price. It's about $250.
I don't entirely agree with above's opinion. It is possible to learn how to do photography on your own with the camera. I bought the 40D from my uncle and bought those 3 lenses and walked around teaching myself, taking tips from others, and reading the 40D user manual. You can do it yourself, but I would only do it if you are serious about it. Although you DO need a lens to take pictures, otherwise the body alone is useless.
I found the following used for sale: Canon A-1 body 35mm SLR camera, Canon lens FD 24 mm f/1:2.8 wide angel, Canon lens FD 50 mm f/1:1.8 w/skylight filter, Canon lens FD 50 mm f/3.5 S.S.C. Macro w/skylight filter and Canon life size adapter w/cases, Canon lens FD 28-55mm f/1:3.5-4.5 Macro “rare lens” w/uv haze-1 filter, Canon lens FD 70-210 mm f/1:4 Macro w/ skylight filter & case, Canon A power winder, Canon A 2 power winder w/case, Tokina 2x converter has seven elements w/case, Canon 299 T speedlite flash, Canon 155 A speedlite flash w/case, Canon camera case (not shown in pictures), Marsand large leather camera bag, Hot shoe/ handle.
And two lens hoods. All the above lenses will fit the follow Canon body’s (F-1, A-1, AE-1, T70, etc.) and have a substantial, solid feel (which is lacking in today’s autofocus lenses!!!). Lenses had filters added at the time of purchase so the glass is perfect & the coatings brilliant!!! All the lenses have a buttery smooth focus, and the diaphragm ac
You can use FD lenses on the EOS series of bodies with an adapter, but keep in mind:
-They'll be manual focus only.
-You'll have to change the f-stops manually.
-The camera's light meter can be thrown off.
-You won't be able to use program/auto or shutter priority modes; you'll have to use aperture priority or completely manual settings.
One version of the FD-to-EOS adapter is here:
