Family Beach Photography

A friend asked me to take her family photos at the beach. Ive been into photography for a while but haven't done a photo shoot I wanted to take some classes before doing something like that. I have four children so classes will have to wait! Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The bright sand will trick your camera into thinking that the scene is too bright, so you should bracket, but plan to underexpose the shot by a 1/3 or 1/2 step. Also, to make sure that you don't get dark shadows on your children's faces, turn on your fill flash option. This won't overexpose the shot, but instead will add light to the shadows so you can see their faces and eyes, which can sometimes be very dark.

Of course a good way to manage heavy shadows is by going to the beach very early or very late in the day when the sun isn't very high in the sky. If you wait until about 1/2 hour before sunset, you can get some great light, and even have the setting sun in the background. Again, you should plan to use fill flash to make sure there aren't dark shadows. A note of caution on sunset shots--don't aim your digital camera right at the sun. It can burn your sensor and ruin your camera. Instead aim the camera just off the sun. It will still come out fine.

I have a few years experience in photography and was asked by my boss to take her family Christmas photos at the beach. I was planning on shooting a couple of rolls (yes I shoot film) and giving her all proofs in 4x6 prints. I use a Canon Elan and will use professional film and a professional lab. I usually just charge my friends for processing, but would like to make a little $$ this time:)

Are you ready to be your own boss? Then remember he knows you are not a pro yet, so why should he pay you like you are? Think of this as a friendly shoot. My thought would be to charge him for all the lab work + $50. Be fair you will still have to work for him until you turn pro.

All I remember is a small scene from the movie. His family is vacationing at the beach and his wife was blond and he had a son. I think she sleeps with a man that they met on the beach. The son played the guitar. That is the best that I remember. Any help would be great.

On location meaning a beach opr park of choice, or even a mobile studio set up in there house. I do not actually have a studio office, but I do have a mobile studio with stands, lighting, a few props, an back drops. How should I find these customers who would like family portraits done at a place of there choice?

This is becoming the most common way to get your family portrait done now. It is def popular where I live. I see roadside sign ads and ads in small local magazines.

I have also seen photographers take their photos and make them into postcards with contact info and set them out at businesses. Use them as your business card so that people can see your work.

Also, word of mouth is the best way to get any business going!

Think Bahamas but not. lol I'm not too familiar with Florida. I've been to Orlando and Cocoa Beach. I did not like Cocoa Beach. We originally wanted to go to the Bahamas to get married, but some of my family cannot do the trip. We want to stay at a resort that isn't overcrowded with children...I love them, but I want it to be romantic, and less children the better. I am also looking for locations that have clear water, white sand, waves, and of course...tons of activities.

If any of you have suggestions for resorts that you've been married at or not, please, we need all the help we can get. I only expect at most 15-20 guests, but I want the cost to stay at a minimum. I'm also looking for a place that supplies a good photographer, as photography is an obsession of mine.

Our budget will probably be about $5-7,000. And the wedding won't be for another year, or year and a half.

I was in Florida in April and I stayed in Sanibel Island. It is on the Gulf Coast, near Fort Myers and about 3 hours south of Tampa. I stayed at the Sanibel Inn. It was wonderful. I am not sure if they have wedding specials or not, but I am sure if you ask they can probably give you some info. Check out the websites.
