I am looking for a book of photographs that show different people around the world with all of their possessions laid out in front of their residence. They photographer asked them what they liked the best, least, etc. They had poor families in Eastern Europe, Americans, some kind of Middle Eastern prince, etc. I think it came out in the mid-80's. Any idea of what the book is titled? Any help would be GREAT.

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.
You learn how to expose for front-lit, back-lit, side-lit scenes, overcast skies, macro photography, motion, stationery objects, how to expose for bright scenes such as snow and dark scenes such as night photography and much more. Then Bryan Peterson tops it off with sections on metering, special techniques and filters, and an analysis of film cameras vs digital cameras.
This book also has hands-on exercises that anyone can go through so that the reader can experience all of the methods explained. Along with this, the book is FULL of color photos that show exactly what the end result could be. Sometimes there are comparisons of pictures of before and after exposure adjustments so the reader can understand WHY they should make such changes.
Overall, it's a very helpful teaching tool for anyone starting out in photography.
Hope this helps!
My family is from the Dominican Republic and I'd like to have a book of photographs of the country. I've looked in local bookstores and haven't found anything, and have had trouble finding a good one online. Any suggestions?
Please keep is Dominican Republic specific, not Hispaniola or the Caribbean, if possible. Thanks!
Sorry, haven't the foggiest.
I am trying to find a self publishing company, so far i have only found cheap amateur type sites, i am looking for something more professional not the "make your own book in three easy steps stuff, I already have everything lay out in Adobe page marker its a 145 page photography book on exotic places around the world
I am looking to sell the books on amazon.com and in my store, but like i said the places that i have found so far looks like they make photo books for family and friends type stuff,
can anyone recommend anything???
Thanks
I did a photo/history book with lulu. They are basically a print on demand service. They are not the basic template driven photo book or vanity press. Lay it out anyway you want and they will print it. You probably need to distill it to a pdf file which should be no problem if you have it in Adobe anyways. I felt their book quality was very good, their image quality was acceptable but not great. I've had them print 120 copies so far most of which were sold retail. A 100 page full color 8.5X11paperback book ran about $18/copy. I'd use them again.
Amazon now also has a service for self publishers, but I know little about it.
I looked into blurb and while I hear the product is good, I felt there prices were so high, there was no way you could pay their printing price and be even close to competative selling a book.

Photography book documents "30-year portrait" of one American ...
When newspaper photojournalist Pam Spaulding set out to photograph a year in the life of a new mother in 1977, little did she know where the project would take her.
Three decades on she was still photographing the McGarveys, a Louisville, Kentucky family that had grown to five, following daily activities and documenting milestones like births, graduations, marriages, and burials. She was chronicling the family's passage through life.
What became a lifelong passion, perhaps an obsession, for Spaulding has yielded a remarkable archive of photographs that tracks not only the everyday lives of one family, but also the granular details of the changing American way of life.
The only comparable work in the annals of documentary photography is the fascinating 25-year portrait of the four Brown sisters by Nicholas Nixon, says veteran National Geographic photographer Sam Abell. "But those portrait sessions are a once-a-year occurrence. The McGarvey project is of another order, and we are unlikely to see anything like it again."
