Name for my photography company? Pls help?
Family Reunion

I am trying to figure out a name for myself with my photography. I take a variety of projects on from weddings to reunions/family portraits, from pets to cows to horses (gymcanna, penning, working cow horse events) to scenic shots, to kids in sports and everywhere in between.

I would like something that stands out but is flexible enought to fit all the work that I do. My name is plain nothing to work with there Corrie Fisher...can you help?

How did you select your company name? Thanks for your help.

most photographers such as myself use their names, and some a simple name, like digital studios, or glamour photography, etc. Don't make it complicating, photography, from its photo's, to its business should be simple, simplistic art can sometimes mean the most... try that method, thats what i do. hope ive been of some help

What would you be willing to pay for photography services (see details)?
A Funny Picture?

I am a college student with photography skills. I take pictures for my college newspaper and I recently won first place in a photo contest. When I'm home for the summer, I'm thinking about advertising around my town for photography services...nothing fancy, but children's birthday parties, anniversaries, family reunions, confirmation/graduation/communion parties, etc. My plan would be to show up and just snap pictures, and then give the clients a burned CD or else charge an extra fee for to get them all developed. What would you be willing to pay for a college girl to come to your house and take picturesfor the duration of your family event and then burn a CD of them for you? And what would you be willing to pay extra for developing? I've never done this before, so I have no idea what to charge. Also, besides the photography skills....I have a high GPA and a long resume and I've had background checks done for other jobs, so in other words, I'm not a creeper.

if you charge just the bare minimum, you're going to get clients who are only willing to pay the bare minimum. With that comes no resepct and youre going to have a difficult time pulling everyone together for a shoot. My advice is to charge no less than $50-75 an hour to start. I have an Excel spreadhseet that helps me bid projects. Email me at ashley@pk1studios.com and I would be happy to share it with you.

I need advice on photographing a dimly lit concert event.?
Little Photographer in Training

1. My experience as a hobby thus far has revolved around family portraits, and some journalistic style photography including family reunions, childbirth, etc. I have never shot anything in a dark room with high action.
2. I have been asked to do this out of the goodness of my heart, and there is no money involved, so I don't need advice telling me to "let the pros do their job," etc.-but I would love some tips on how to give them some nice shots.
3. I have a canon 50d, and an Ex580 flash, both of which I am still getting accustomed to using.
Thanks for any great pointers! I am eager to grow in my hobby!

Depending on the distance to the stage, your flash might not be much help. You might want to try using your AWB or your Custom White Balance mode.(Pg 71-75 50D manual). ISO 1600 or higher and a telephoto lens with f/2.8. I do a lot of shooting in low light without flash and good results See sample below:

Try experimenting with the WB features you camera has to offer. Also try using your ISO H1 & H2 modes and see how they work in low light conditions. First in the AWB mode and then in the CWB mode. If you are close enough to use your flash, try using the custom flash mode.
The WB features will amaze you on what you can do without a flash.

I hope this will help you learn more about your camera/

My first Camera????
Mick the Photographer

Should i go with the Sony Alpha a350???

I now own a regular 8.1 mp camera from Sony......
I belive i want a sony Alpha because is HD....

Im having a child very soon and I want to be able to catch every moment with more vibe in it................... More color and clarity………..

No shame in the camera I have now…But you can only do so much……..but I have loved photography my self for a very long time..... I would also love to get my own little home studio very soon.......... I would love to be able to practice with my own family to get better in photography and what better time that now that I will have a child of my own……….. Im usually the person in a family reunion running around to take pictures………. I would love to take professional maternity pictures and new born pictures. I just need the practice and the right tools…………..

Sure go ahead. Most people will say stick with Canon and Nikon (which I do agree with), but my opinion is that if you decide your gonna start shooting professionally, you'll probably come to that conclusion on your own anyways as you'll see why the majority of pros shooting SLRs are using Canon and Nikon. But it takes time to come to that conclusion.

As you mentioned, you need practice. If you haven't had any kind of formal training, you might want to look at a photography class through a local community college or university. Formal training would qualify under the "right tools". After that, you'll be able to answer most of the questions of what you need or will make contacts with other people that can answer it for ya.

What's a good camera?
Taking a picture

Alright, so I'm going to buy a camera and I want it to be a certain style but I'm not sure what it's called. I think SLR but basically I'm looking for a good camera that I can use for taking more than just family reunion pictures. I'm using it for my high school's photography class and taking photos of my friends skating and such

My first digital SLR
I've been a photographer for 40 years, up till now only with film cameras. My past includes a number of years as a professional doing weddings, portraits, families, etc. I decided recently to invest in a better than average digital and, having owned Nikons since the mid-70's (F2A still works great!), I figured the choice of Nikon was simple. I found the instruction manual a bit overwhelming - especially for a guy who is so comfortable with a camera it's like an extention of my hands. Once you get used to all the features, indicators, etc, it's pretty easy to use. Overall the fit and feel is great, seems like a pretty durable piece of equipment. But there are a couple of issues with the camera. The first is how tiny many of the symbols and lights are - would be much easier on my eyes to have less information but have it bigger! Secondly, the camera consistently over exposes by 2/3 to 1 full stop. I later found that this is a well documented issue discussed in many online forums. Yes, you can dial in exposure compensation, but why should you have to? Especially with a Nikon. Other than that, I'd recommend this as a great camera in it's price range. By the way, I have had a chance to compare it to my daughter's Canon in a similar price range, I'd still pick the Nikon.

Nikon D40 is a great camera - check out my FLICKR page for samples
This is a great camera. I bought it two years ago as my first SLR camera, and it's a great entry-level camera. Image quality is great. My Flickr account is filled with photos taken with this camera, and you're welcome to take a look if you're thinking of buying one.

Nikon D40 and 18-200 VR
Has exceeded my expectations. As good as image quality as my XSi and 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM and much more fun to use. The camera just feels great when its in my hands and is an absolute joy to use while taking pictures.

Four week old Ember was just not herself the day I came to photograph her with all my newborn session props in tow.  We posed her this way and that.  Her mama nursed her.  Her daddy burped her.  Her mama changed her diaper.  Her big brother switched the lullaby music on.  Still, little Ember cried.  She cried a lot.  We bundled her up tight  in this beautiful crocheted blanket and lay her down on the floor.  And for a moment, she was in peace.  Isn’t she just precious?
