im trying to find one that has good focus and could take good nightime pictures as well..if you have any ideas of what kind or where i could find one?
at this point, I think an advanced point and shoot camera is the camera for you - preferrable something with larger than average sensor.
The Canon Powershot G9 sounds good for you - it is the best pocket camera currently made by Canon, it takes good pictures and for sure you will not be disappointed with them. Their ability to shoot RAW and a hotshoe to attach an external flash will give you an edge on night shoot compared to regular point and shoot camera.
I wouldn't recommend a DSLR to you until you learn more about photography, or you can enroll into a photography class and get one. In this case, The Canon Digital Rebel XT or the Nikon D40 is a good way to start.
You're going to need to know about photography for a good night shoot however - and a good tripod.

We are a large family, 2 adults and 5 children, and we are taking family photos. We are planning to do take the photos outdoors at a park location. I want to find some creative ideas for taking standard family photos as well as photos for our Holiday Cards.
Where can I look for poses for taking family photos? I would also like to look at some other examples. Thanks!
Think about what describes your family, or your personalities. If you are an athletic family, maybe you want to add some soccer balls or basketballs. If you are a musical family, perhaps bringing some instruments into the photo would be fun? Hamming it up could be fun too, or picking a clothing theme. See if there are any other props you could use. Have fun!

That's gonna come with the territory. But that request is nothing compared to the media autrocities he's already perpetrated.

Coming Soon, An All New Website! « Porter's Camera Blog
Just like any growing business, eventually you outgrow your digs. That’s what has happened to us at www.porters.com . Our current web platform has become too restrictive and it just can’t keep up with the speed of change in our industry, so we’re building a new home from scratch.
Our goal (crossing all fingers) is to release the new site within 10 days to two weeks. Today that looks very achievable, but who knows what surprises we may find in the last week of testing.
The complete website upgrade will take place over several months and phases. Right now, we want to have basic shopping functions online for the Holiday season. Then, over the next few months we will add much more content, features and interactivity.
As you may imagine, custom building anything requires time, good support and clear direction. The website design group we hired (Gorilla Chicago) has been top-notch, taking our core ideas and creating a whole new web experience for us. Right now we are in testing and working the bugs out, but this new site is already better than I could have hoped for.
