What camera/accessories would I need for nature shots?
Circular Polarizing Filter

For taking pictures of nature, is there a special kind of camera specially designed for those kind of shots? Would I need filters? Do I need a tripod?
If there are any other needed accessories, please list them as well. Thank you!

A good DSLR. Yes, you'll need a sturdy tripod, especially the type that goes flat to the ground.. Lenses from wide to strong telephoto. Filters such as polarizer and gradient neutral density. A cable release wouldn't hurt. Large media card to shoot raw.

Camera Accessories - Hood Loops & UV Filters - Digital Photography Tips by Berger Bros Camera

www.Berger-Bros.com Yvonne Berger, head instructor at Berger Bros Camera in Long Island, discusses two items which should always be in your camera ...

What camera accessories should I buy?
Sunset on False Bay

I just bought a Canon 1000D. What accessories should I buy next? What's the function of the lens hood and uv filter? Do I need to buy those?

What is your area of interest? Landscapes, macro close ups, portraits, wildlife?

The obvious first purchases probably are
1. UV filter for your lens (cheap protection if nothing else)
2. Large capacity and fast SD card + spare. Cards sometimes fail and it is a good idea to have a spare with you, especially as they are so small and cheap.
3. Decent case to protect camera.
4. According to the spec sheet, the battery will last 4-500 shots. Some people swear you need a spare battery - your call on that one.
5. Card reader for your computer.
6. Photo editing software.

After that, it is all down to your interests, priorities and budget.
Personally, I like to have a better flash with bounce head. The on-board flash only has a guide number of 13 and gives a harsh result. I take a lot of flash photos so would buy one with a bounce head for more natural lighting and with as high a guide number as you can afford. Stick with Canon brand for maximum compatibility.

If you like landscapes, you should look at a wide angle lens offering at least 28mm equivalent. Close up photography needs a macro lens. Portraits look best with a lens in approximately 90-135mm range. Wildlife shots would benefit from a long zoom. Sports photography needs a longish zoom, but also a large aperture to keep the shutter speed high.

Unfortunately, buying the camera body is just the start of what can be a very expensive hobby, but if you think carefully about what you are trying to achieve and where your interests lie, at least you can target your expenditure in the right area.

Good luck.

i want to get a polarized filter for my camera, i saw this Dolica Polarized Filter + ND Filter. is it good?

im new to photography, i saw this item online, i was wonderin if anyone can help me. is this polarized filter ok?

I'm skeptical of this ad. The packaging says it's an ND filter. I would not expect the package of a polarizing filter to fail to display that property. $99 is also expensive for a 58mm circular polarizer unless it is super mult-coated or something.
Here is a reputable source:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt =circular+polarizer+58mm&N=0&Ini tialSearch=yes
However, if you live in the United Arab Emirates (where souq.com says its Dolica filter is located), BH Photo will not be able to ship to you. If there is an actual, physical camera store near you in the UAE it might be a better deal than souq.com.
58mm is the correct size for the Canon 18-55mm kit lens. However, using a polarizer with the kit lens is difficult because the front element rotates when it focuses. If you upgrade to a better lens the filter size would be different. For the Canon 18-135mm lens it is 67mm.

What are some good DSLR camera accessories?
Cokin P840 171/365

I own a Canon Rebel Xsi and have the following:

1. B+W 58mm Circular Polarizer MRC Filter
2. Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens
3. Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens
4. Canon Speedlite 270EX Flash

Is there anything else I should buy for my camera?

- A Battery Grip would be nice to have for extended battery life and the vertical shutter-release.
- A Decent Tripod for those long exposures, etc.
- Cleaning Stuff (Rocket Blower, Micro-fiber cloth, Sensor-Cleaning Fluid, lens cleaning fluid)
- High Quality UV Filters on both lenses for damage protection. (Make sure to research the UV filters before buying, a low quality filter would degrade sharpness and image quality)
- Extra Batteries (These are Spares, just in case you run out on location)
- Canon 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 (Nice, cheap, and the some of the best lenses in canon's line. A definite must have for every photographer)

The key is to remember what kind of photography you are doing and buying only those things that are necessary for what you are doing.

what size filter will fit my SLR camera lens?
Expressions of Cape Town

So I'm looking at color filters for my film Nikon N80, my lens is 35-80mm, and after each filter it will specify a certain mm, what will fit my lens? anything in between 35 and 80? just 35? just 80? I'm confused!

In case you are wondering, here are the filters I'm looking at:

It will be marked on your lens, probably on the front. Look for a circle with a line through it together with a number like 58mm.

  • Advice on Nikon d40 digital SLR camera and accessories…? | Nikon ...

Im quite new to photography and am planning to buy the Nikon d40. I would appreciate some knowledge on the camera and what items to buy with it.

For a start, what does a lens filter do? Will a filter make the images better in some way, or does it just protect the lens?

Would there be much difference between the performance of a brand new Nikon d40 and say an 18 month old second hand one, which has had regular use but no obvious signs of damage?

I know that the standard lens for this camera is the 18-55mm, and i think the next one up is 50- 200mm(?) What do bigger lenses do? Are they there to zoom in for further away shots? And roughly how much would a new 50-200mm lens cost in the shops?

(I would appreciate any more advice you’d be able to give on accessories for this camera)

Thanks very much If everything on the 18 month old one is working fine and theres no dust on the CCD or inside the lens or in general has dust anywhere inside then it should be fine.
