I know that Sony took over Minolta and understand that Minolta AF lenses will work in manual mode, but will Sigma AF lenses work either in manual mode or AF mode?
When considering a purchase that large, I would suggest you take your lens into a camera store and actually try the lenses on the new camera ...
If nothing else the professional in the store will know.
Enter Auto Focus technology. Minolta Freedom III. Side Note: The battery mentioned is the older style. It can also take a 2CR5 battery.
Just wondering if they would be interchangeable.
Yes they will.
Minolta changed its lens mount from the "MC/MD" bayonet type to the "A" type in 1985 with the introduction of the Maxxum 7000 AF cameras. This mount was carried over to the later DSLR cameras produced by the partnership of Konica-Minolta. When K-M quit the camera business, Sony bought the DSLR line.
In addition to the Minolta legacy lenses, Sony has their own branded lens line and recently announced a Carl Zeiss line of lenses.
Buy the Sony A200 (I believe the A100 is discontinued) and enjoy using your lenses from your Maxxum.

does anyone know what year Minolta introduced their AF-zoom 65 camera in the market? i just really need to know. :)
1989.
Oh, go on, I'll elaborate.
AF is a Minolta model-type designation.
Mac is a Minolta designation.
Zoom and 65 are Minolta model names.
What you're asking however, is for a camera that either I haven't heard of, that wasn't advertised by Minolta, or there's a slight mistake in your naming of the camera.
They produced:
a MAC ZOOM 90 but not a 65,
a MAC 7 etc but not a 65,
a ZOOM 65 but not a MAC version
a MAC TELE 80, but not a MAC ZOOM 80
a MAC ZOOM 90, but not a MAC TELE 90.
There was an AF-ZOOM65, but I don't think it was a 'Mac Mate' type camera.
They also had variants called Freedom, Mac Mate, etc. But your specific name shows up nowhere.
But I know it's 1989 because it was the only year when it's particular lens (that was denoted in part by the name) was used. The year after, Minolta dropped this silliness and started calling that class of camera the RIVA.

I have good AF lenses for my old Minolta 7000i. They have great optics, but can I use them on any DSLR?
Every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 will work with the Konica-Minolta D5 & D7 and the new Sony A100, A200, A300 & A700.
Minolta changed their lens mount to the A-mouint in 1985 when they introduced the Maxxum 7000.
There are adapters to use the older Minolta manual focus MC/MD lenses on a Canon FD mount and on the Canon EOS cameras but no adapter currently for Maxxum AF to Canon EOS.
I have a Minolta Maxxum 35mm camera and would like to go digital but I don't want to buy everything all over again. Does anyone make a digital camera that would accept the lenses I currently have?
Sony A200 is a great camera, highly recommended. It will probably work with your Maxxum flash in TTL mode too, if you have one.
I have Minolta lenses on my A200. The 35-70mm f4 and the 70-210mm f4. Both lenses are excellent. If you have the 50mm f1.7 it is a great lens on the A200 (I have the Sony 50mm f1.4). All of these f1.7 and f4 lenses are much sought after on eBay because they fit the new Sony's :)
The great thing about the Sony is that Imagine Stabilisation is built into the camera body, so your old Minolta lenses benefit from it!
If you are happy with using a viewfinder, the A200 is the one to go for. The A300 with "liveview" isn't worth the extra cash IMO. I don't need the extra mpix on the higher-end expensive Sony's either.

Most of the similarities end here – the A55 uses the standard A-mount, which was inherited from Minolta. This means that there's a wider range of lenses to choose from. The NEX cameras used a new E-mount, but it's also interesting to note that and more »
