Will an older minolta AF lens (fits a minolta AF maxxum 5000) fit onto a newer DSLR camera, like a sony A100KB

Just wondering if they would be interchangeable.

Yes they will.

Minolta changed its lens mount from the "MC/MD" bayonet type to the "A" type in 1985 with the introduction of the Maxxum 7000 AF cameras. This mount was carried over to the later DSLR cameras produced by the partnership of Konica-Minolta. When K-M quit the camera business, Sony bought the DSLR line.

In addition to the Minolta legacy lenses, Sony has their own branded lens line and recently announced a Carl Zeiss line of lenses.

Buy the Sony A200 (I believe the A100 is discontinued) and enjoy using your lenses from your Maxxum.

Sony alpha / Minolta AF Lens to Sony E NEX Adpator

I have a Tamron 177D AF lens for Minolta SLR and planning to buy Sony a100 DSLR, is it a good lens or buy kit?

Im planning to buy a sony alpha a100 dslr, will my tamron 177d for minolta slr fit the sony a100 dslr, if yes, is it a good lens or just buy the kit?

The Sony A100 has a 1.5 focal length multiplier, so your Tamron 28-80mm zoom would effectively become 42-120mm.
As such, it's probably not so great as a standard zoom, and that's IF the electronics match up. I'm not sure if the old Tamrons meter properly on the A100. The AF shouldn't be a problem however.
If the 177D is your only investment in Minolta glass, I strongly urge you to consider the Canon 400D and the Nikon D80 as well. These are marginally more expensive and better than the Sony A100, and you'll have a much wider and deeper selection of lenses to start over with.
The kit lens for the A100 is a consumer grade 18-70 zoom (effectively 27-105mm). It costs about $100 as a kit with the A100, and it goes for under $200 sold separately. The kit lenses from Nikon and Canon are also low budget stuff. Their 18-55mm zooms are anyway. Nikon offered a decent 18-70 with the D70 and Canon packaged a good 17-85 with the 30D. Anyway, these are all 10 mega-pixel cameras that will brutally reveal every flaw, so don't skimp on lenses if you don't have to.

I have old Minolta AF lens look into buying new SLR digital camera,?

any consideration to new Sony Alpha camera?

Unless the lenses are really good and totally compatible (exposure and autofocus) with the new Sony Alpha, I'd recommend not letting an old lens be a major factor in this decision.

I'd recommend taking a very serious look at both the Nikon and Canon models. In the long run those two will over you more flexibility. The Sony is a good camera but I don't believe that Sony offers you the room to grow. With Canon you could start out with an XTi, move up to a 30D, then maybe even a 5D if you got really serious. Same sort of thing with Nikon.

I was an old Minolta (XG1) shooter. My lenses were pre-autofocus so they didn't factor into my decision at all. I went with the Nikon D50 and have been pleased. I've been around a lot of Canon shooters and they like their stuff as well.

i have minolta AF 75-300mm lens,i want buy nikon D40 dsl.will this lens be compatible with this camera?help ?

No. Your lens fits Sony DSLR's only.

Will this Lens work with my Minolta Maxxum 3xi? Minolta 28-80/3.5-5.6 II AF Zoom Lens f/Maxxum/Dynax Silver?

I have recently purchased a minolta maxxum 3xi, and i need to get a lens for it i was wondering if anyone knows if this lens will work with my camera, i cannot seem to find my answer on any of the sites selling lenses.

Any Minolta AF lens will work on a Maxxum/Dynax camera. The only exceptions would be the old Vectis (APS) and digital specific lenses.

It would also work on a Sony Alpha D-SLR (although you wouldn't want to use that one).

  • Buy Cheap

  • Minolta AF Lens 50

I currently own an Alpha 300 and two Sony lenses, the kit lens (18-70mm) and the 70-300mm. Until know i had believed that those sony lenses were pretty good. This little lens simply blows them right out of the park. It’s sharp, fast (shutter speed i mean), well built, has an exquisite bokeh and the best part … incredibly inexpensive!
