The name "Leica" on the front, instead of "Lumix."

Also, there is supposedly some difference in the firmware. Some users report that the Leica uses less aggressive noise reduction. Others aren't so sure about that. Whether that is an advantage isn't obvious either: the problem isn't the noise reduction, it's the noise. Of course, it won't matter if you use the RAW format and do noise reduction on your computer, which will give better results than shooting JPEG with either version..

i have never done photography, i was thinking about gettin a canon rebel xt however some say it would be a little too advanced to start on such a camera...
when i look leica d-lux on flickr it seems like it takes such great photos... >> photography...
but then i hear leica is point-and-shoot (it seems to take dslr-ish type photos)should i get the leica for it?

If you have never done any photography, you need to take a class in photography first. Here is a link that will give you a clue as to what it entails to own and operate an adjustable camera.

Photo classes require you to own a 35mm SLR. You can buy a good used one with a lens for under $200 on craigslist. Nikon and Canon are the two used by the pros and therefore have a lot of good used cameras and lenses available for starting photographers

Let the digital camera aspect of photography wait for a while. By the time you have finished a few classes in photography, there will be some much more amazing cameras available that will use your Nikon or Canon lenses you bought during you classes and they will for sure have more features than the ones do now and may even cost you less. All the skills you will be learning in the photo class, will be transferable to your DSLR when you buy it.

Remember: There are two hardware parts to digital photography ... 1) a digital camera and 2) the computer and software to view and use the imges.

Hi,im looking for a better camera than the d-lux 4. only point and shoot. it costs almost $700. i know there is..can u suggest some other brand?

Take a look at the Canon Powershot G10 or the G11.. both are excellent and have many of the controls of a dslr.
