C Mount Camera Lenses

Answers

Which teleconverter do I need to fit the Phoenix 500mm that mounts in the middle of the lense?

The lens is the F8 and describes the teleconverter attaching in the middle of the lense. Which one do I need b/c all I've seen are lenses that attach to the camera body
The teleconverter I need IS in fact a T-mount style. That's why it does't connect to the body. Any idea where one could be purchased?

You will need to describe your question a little better.

The Phoenix 500 mm lens and all others attach directly to the camera.
What camera do you have? What camera is the Phoenix lens designed to fit?

Most auto-focus cameras will only work in the auto-focus mode with lenses faster than f/5.6 ... adding a tel-extender (teleconverter) will add at least a virtual 2 stops, so your 500 mm f/8 will become a 1000 mm f/16

Your statement, "all I've seen are lenses that attach to the camera body" is a little disconcerting ... since that is the way ALL lenses are attached to SLR or DSLR cameras, I am wondering why this surprises you.

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 AF DC OS HSM review?

I'm looking forward to buying a DSLR and considering different camera/lens options. Choice of camera is more or less clear - Canon 40D, but lens is a tough one for me: D40 comes in kit with Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM and they have a quite good prices now. Only concern is that this lens is not wide enough for APS-C camera as a general purpose lens (I'm not planning to buy additional lenses for a while).
I found a new Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 AF DC OS HSM lens which seems to be more flexible, but there are no decent reviews on it... If someone has this Sigma lens please let me know how well it is working with Canon body. If you found any reviews on this lens form Sigma please send links.
Also are there other lenses in this range (Canon mount, same focal length range, price category, preferably with image stabilization) that I could consider?
Canon 40D kit (mentioned above) is $1100 or $950 body only, and I guess it's worth it. The question is about kit lens and possible alternatives

It really depends upon how long you intend to keep the lens. Canon lenses are known for being rugged and lasting for a couple of decades as are Nikon's.

While there are some descent third-party lenses out there, you will have to be careful which you choose.

In most cases you are far better off buying a good used Canon vs a new third-party lens.

FYI, IS and VR lenses introduce a very slight amount of shutter lag. This has to do with the camera/lens needing to stabilize before allowing the shutter to open.

For that reason, most action and sports photographers use non-IS/VR lenses and mount their heavy, long lenses on tripods.

Sigma 18-125mm on Canon d40?

Currently there is nothing in that range that Canon makes. Hopefully there will be soon, since Nikon has an 18-200mm VR lens out.

The Sigma lens is pretty new, so it will take a little while for real world reviews of it to come up.

My solution is to use the 24-105mm f/4L IS lens. It's not quite as wide or quite as much telephoto as the Sigma, but it's a little bit wider than the 28-135mm and a little bit faster as well.

    Conclusion

I wait for about Canon’s commitment to the EF-S mount and the limited number of cameras that fit it will be convinced. However, if you’re one of them and not even plan to full-frame in the future, then this upgrade is a powerful and versatile lens. Note however, that the minimum focus distance measured by the sensor and aircraft to get a 1:1 image of the front of the lens only some 85mm from the subject. On an APS-C sensor but it seems the ideal focal length for portraits and possibly to find much favor in this discipline.
