I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens.
I am looking for something that will let me zoom in a lot closer. Is there some sort of teleconverter I could get to attach to it? Or would I have to save up for a 400mm or 600mm lens?
You can get a 2X teleconverter which will essentially double your focal length to 400mm. In my opinion the autofocus slows down some but it isn't that bad. At 400mm you should definitely use either a tripod or monopod to steady the camera & lens

should i really pay more for .Vibration Reduction in a lens for a nikon camera?
Vr is a fairly new innovation on cameras ( in the large scheme that is ). So no you don't. VR will let you use a slower shutter speed handheld with the same length lens. If you are not using VR use the reciprocal of the lens focal length as your slowest handheld speed ( eg 200 mm lens 1/250 sec slowest shutter speed) or use a tripod or monopod when you are slower.

Ok so i have hair product on my camera lens. I have a Nikon Coolpix s60. And when i turn it on the lens has little speckles on it and i dont know how to clean it. I need it for my photo journalism class next trimester, i also heard that rice will absorb any moisture do you think this will help?! Thanks!
I don't need 10 points so I will suggest just as your first answerer suggested, microfiber cloth. For quick use you might go to local camera shop and buy lens tissue. Never put alcohol on lens. In fact I suggest no liquid.

I am planning to take my daughters senior portraits this year, and would like to know which Nikon Lens would be the best to purchase for the best quality picture. I own a Nokon D80 if that helps.I currently own the original lens that came with it...Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-135mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED Thanks for the help!
I like Karl's answer and agree 100%. Your lens is probably just fine and your lighting will make the most difference. Try not to simply use the on-camera flash. At a MINIMUM, if you are stuck using the on-camera flash, put a lamp with a bare bulb on the floor behind your subject so the shadows on the wall will be kept to a minimum.
If you are looking for an excuse to buy a nice new lens, I do like the 17-55, but our resident model photographer fhotoace uses the Nikon 24-85 about 95% of the time.
He has this one: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/2485af. htm but you might also look at this one: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/2485afs .htm Bear in mind that Rockwell's use for the lens is different than a professional model photographer's. I'd be kind of concerned about his own observation (for the cheaper lens) that, "AF action is fast and silent. Well, it was on the first day I had it. As dust collected inside after the first day of use I now get a slight squeak as it focuses. Ditto for the smoothness of the zoom; after the first day stuff collects inside and it's no longer as smooth."
The Nikon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF Zoom Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4.0D IF Autofocus Lens is the one that's always out of stock at B&H ($565) and the 5 user reviews there rate is very highly. It's on my wish list. This lens has a macro mode with 1:2 reproduction, focusing as close as about 8 inches.
The Nikon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF Zoom Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G AF-S Autofocus Lens is $300 at B&H. This lens goes to 1:4.8 at 14.4".

I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.
yes and no
99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.

What a $5900 lens says about photography
Digital photography is profoundly different from the film era for many reasons. Here are some: new image sensors can enable photography in conditions too dark for film. The same camera can shoot video and still shots. Cameras can record not just when you took a photo, but where you took it. It's easy to publish photos globally on the Internet or to alter them significantly with software. And steadily increasing computing power lets cameras do everything from detect smiling faces to correct lens shortcomings.
And yet islands of stability remain. The high-end lens, with its complex optical engineering and premium pricing, is one of them.
Many SLR users don't venture beyond the kit lens that comes with their camera--an 18-55mm zoom that's reasonable for indoor shooting and basic tourist photography. Those who want to photograph the kids' soccer matches can step up with a telephoto zoom--usually one reaching to 200mm or 250mm and costing a few hundred dollars.
So why all the extra price for a bit more focal length to reach 300mm?

Offer to pay for a few copies of the images, so you can take them home and study the image quality. Compare the extras. Ask what type of warranty comes with each camera. Find out if any of the cameras come with accessories like batteries, a battery charger, a media card, video cables or photo-editing software. The cost of accessories can add to your bill, so if one of your top choices is already bundled with these necessities, it may be a better bargain.
