Is it a good idea on Nikon Rifle scope with BDC to unscrew the elev.& windage screws without moving the turrets & bring those turrets dials back to "0" by lifting it up and tighten it back after zeroing at 100 yds so that u can play those turrets for long range elevation & Windage correction ?? Need your view on this matter...thanks.
No....That particular scope isn't designed with resettable dials. Lifting the dial can damage the waterproof seal allowing moisture inside the scope body.
Your BDC reticle's "ballistic circles" should be all that you need to take a accurate shot out to a 600 yard maximum once it has been sighted in per the scope's instructions.

This is the "newbee" hunter... did asked Q's about which bolt action rifle to get and I thank you guys for all your info. and selections. now, same situation, now for a SCOPE. so I'm thinkin economically, but not bottom of the barrel, and not an arm and a leg..suggestions are VERY appreciated.
I sight in at 200 yards for ZERO with my centerfires, so that normally means being 2 inches high at 100 yards. That range set up means my 300 yard shot is only a small adjustment for vertical and even 400 yards would be a very make-able shot with simple hold over. Since 400 yards is near the limit I would feel ethical about shooting game, that works perfect for me. I prefer a very open field of view, so I like the Niko-Plex reticle from Nikon and the Wide or Fine Duplex from Leupold. Using BDC and Mil-Dots really doesn't come into play for most hunting situations and you may have a tendency to be looking at too much clutter and thinking too much instead of trusting your gun and the amount or practice you have. Most shots are going to be less than 200 yards, vast majority less than 100.
You can't go wrong with either scope choice,I prefer the Leupold just slightly, personal preference.
I do like Leupold rings and bases over Weaver, but Millet and Warne make great products too.
EDIT: Stopped off at a buddies shop and we talked BDC and Mil-Dot for a little. If you cant the scope or rifle/scope combination the BDC rings on a Nikon and the Mil-Dots on other systems have a compounded error. This would effect hunting shots, but would not be so problematic with a bench set-up where you know you are level and square up because of a bipod or rest.

I was interested in the Nikon buckmaster in the 4.5-14(40) and the monarch in the 4-16 but was told not to worry about it. I came across the Bushnell Elite 3200 in the 5-15(40). Im not sure which is a better. Both of which are at great prices which gained my attention. Can anyone resolve my problem.
Nikon makes good scopes, as does Bushell
You need to compare apples to apples.
Bushnell's premium scope is the Bushnell Elite 6500, followed by the Bushnell Elite 4200, then the Bushnell Elite 3200, then Legend, then Banner and Trophy (I don't know which is better between those two) and at the bottom is the Bushnell Sportsman.
For Nikon their premium is the Nikon Monarch Gold and Monarch X, followed by Monarch, then Nikon's Buckmaster, then Nikon Prostaff
Bushnell's 6500 is better than Nikon Prostaff
Nikon Monarch is better than Bushnell Banner
Apples to Apples, from best to worst
Nikon Monarch Gold/Nikon Monarch X = Bushnell Elite 6500
Nikon Monarch = Bushnell Elite 4200
Nikon Buckmaster = Bushnell Elite 3200
Nikon Prostaff = Bushnell Legend
No Nikon equivalent = Bushnell Banner and Trophy
No Nikon equivalent = Bushnell Sportsman
So yes, the Bushnell Elite 3200 is just as good as the Nikon Buckmaster...but then they are priced pretty similar too.
You get what you pay for.
You don't get a better scope by going with a different brand, you get a better scope by paying a few hundred more dollars.
I own a 7mm rem mag in a rem 700 BDL and is topped with a cheap tasco at the moment. I am currently shooting 140. grain soft points and 160 grain accubonds. I can get real good groups with these bullets but the problem is after a long day of shooting the groups get worse. Now i thought i was me at first so i went home and went back to the range 2 days later and the groups just kept getting worse. I hate the scope on top of my rifle and i want to change it. Now i cant afford much at the moment so i looking for a good cheap scope. I came across a Nikon Buckmaster and the reviews for the scope is great, and the price is even better. I was looking at a 4.5x-14x with 40mm obj lens and side focus and can get either BDC, Mil dot or just plex reticle.
this scope will not be permanite. My 30-06 also need a replacement scope. I use my 7mm rem mag a lot more so i would like to start here. i would like to get the buckmaster for the 7mm and once i can afford a better scope i would switch the buckmaster over to the 06 and get a leupold or Zeiss for the 7mm. I looked around and my options were the Bushnell 3200, Burris Fullfield II and Nikon Buckmaster. Now the nikon has the best price and best reviews. what do you think?
I have 2 Nikon scopes, go Nikon.

I would like to know from experience is this scope any good. Im not looking for an amazing scope, im not even looking for a great scope. Right now i cant afford amazing or great. Just finished buying a new ATV and used the money for a new scope to go towards the ATV. So i gotta wait a while before getting a great/amazing scope. I need to replace a tasco. I came across this scope it was a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x-14x 40mm matte with Mil dot/nikon plex/ or BDC. The price was 279.99. I know Nikon make some pretty good scopes and have a good warranty. It would replace my tasco on my 7mm rem mag. I normally hunt Black bear, whitetail, mule, antelope, caribou and moose with this rifle and have had shots from 50-400 yards. I thought this scope had a good power in case of those long shots, and a decently low power for closer shots. This scope most likely will not be permanite as for coming across a Zeiss Conquest and a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x 40mm with CDS which i fell in love with both of them. i...
