Why would I need a D700 nikon camera when my D70 and D80 do just fine?
DND

Nikon states the D700 is the best.
I shoot manuel and use a light meter so how can the D700 top me?

Hi ETA,

You don't need a D700, you WANT a D700 and you are in the same community of guys who are always wanting the latest and greatest.

You have good equipment so why not use what you already put $2000.00 in and have not gotten all of the mileage out of yet?

I have been in your shoes, and all that has come of it is more cameras than I know what to do with. All of them GOOD... just sitting around because the newer model bumped it out of my camera bag. But I realize how foolish I have been... And have decided to just STOP.

Instead of me running out and swooping up the newest toy... I have decided to use the money for better purposes..... and that is on a couple of pro level lenses. Cameras tend to come and go... as we are talking about now.... but lenses tend to stay and also retain their value. Camera prices drop like lead where as your lenses can even appreciate in value. Anyway.... That is how it is with the market.

If you become addicted to ''the new stuff'', you will never get your money's worth out of your cameras..... as new stuff is replacing the D700 as we speak.

Thanks for reading.

With a Nikon D700 digital camera and a fixed 300mm lens, why is my f/stop reading error?

By default will get this error if the aperture ring is set to anything but the minimum. If you wish to use the ring in manual or aperture priority mode, you must first enable the Aperture Ring function in the D700's Custom Settings Menu > f9 (Custom Command Dials) > Aperture Setting.

How much does a Nikon D700 camera cost? Canon 5D?
20110724_026_GRAFLEX CENTURY GRAPHIC with Schneider Kreuznach Xenar 1:4,5/105

The Canon 5D costs $3499.99, but if you own a number of canon lenses and were only concerned with purchasing the body, you could buy it for $2699.99.

The Nikon D700 is $2699.99 as well, but with the standard lens, it is $2999.99.

If i were you, i would invest more of my money into buying more lenses because you can get some amazing images on even entry level DSLRs with the right lenses. the most important thing is to put a nice piece of glass (lens) onto any camera body to get it's full potential. THEN, upgrade. It's completely understandable wanting a high-end SLR.

which camera is better nikon d700 or d90?

Its like fhotoace said look at what you want to do and match the camera to that. Nathan is also right in that if its just for still pictures a full frame sensor will always give you more light to each pixel and larger pixels. This combination will yield higher quality, better dynamic range and color saturation, and increased clarity with lower noise. But that does not mean everyone needs a full frame sensor DSLR

  • The Nikon D700 – What's Next? « DentonImages Blog

The impressive Nikon D700 turns 2 years old in the Summer of 2010, which is about retirement age for modern DSLR’s. Rumors and speculation are rife as to what will replace it, and earlier this month Nikon sent out a survey to registered D700 owners (myself included) asking questions about what users actually want from their cameras. The survey had a heavy focus on questions about megapixels (one question asked should it be 24mp, stay at 12mp, or in the 18mp range), as well as questions about the importance of autofocus, ISO capabilities, dynamic range etc.

The rumored (speculated?) contenders that have been floating around are the D700x, D700s and D800. Let’s take a look at each:

Nikon D700x The Nikon D3x was launched in December 2008. In recent years, Nikon has continually developed and reused sensors, often bring out the same sensor in a lower end body around 9 months later. For example, the D200 sensor (or a derivative thereof) found its way into the D80, then D40x, D60 and is still being utilized in the D3000 today. The sensor from the D300 formed the base for the D90, the D5000 and then D300s. The sensor from the Nikon D3 found its way into the D700 (and then a heavily developed version back into the D3s).
