Nikon Coolpix S550

Most of the pictures i take with my nikon s550 coolpix camera come out pretty blurry or not in focus. it is a 10 mega pixle camera. i dont remember dropping it or damaging it. i went to best buy and they said nothing was wrong, but recently i turned it on and it made noise.
1. does this happen to anyone else?
2. any suggestions on how to get better pictures?
3. any suggestions for another very good digital camera?

i think with most cameras you have to let it auto focus before taking the picture so it won't be blurry and to do that you have to press down on the picture taking button but not too much otherwise it would snap a picture so as you lightly press the button the camera should auto focus and you may hear a beep noise then you can press all the way down to take the picture

How long is the battery life of the Nikon Coolpix S550? And what is an optical viewfinder? What is ISO? What does it do?

200-250 picture with the flash off. Playing with the camera, viewing picutres and flash will eat into that so it's a conservative estimate.

Optical view finder is like the old film cameras. Where you look through a hole to see the what you're taking a picture of (ie not through the screen). The Nikon S550 is not equipped with one (as with most other compact cameras).

ISO is the rating of the camera's signal amplification. It helps the camera become more sensitive to light, thus reduce blur in low light conditions or in action scenes (just like high ISO film from before). but you pay for it in image quality.

I believe it can do ISO 2000. It is not recommended to exceed ISO 400 as the higher the ISO the more grainy/staticy the picture gets. You also lose colour and detail. Automatic ISO will keep your ISO low anyways.

I'm a regular teenage girl looking for a camera to take pictures of good quality of me and my friends. Between the Nikon Coolpix S550 and the Fuji Finepix Z20 which one is the better to get.

I'm also planning on keeping this camera for about 4 years unless if something happens so keep that in mind.

i just got the fuji in red and it is awesome. u can pretty much do everything w/ it. u can even share pics wirelessly w/ other cameras and computers. the nikon coolpix S550 costs alot more but it does have the tripod. the fuji is a great pic at 10.1 mp but i personaly think the fuji is the best. The fuji z20 also has tons of features. about 3x more than the nikon.

I have a Nikon Coolpix S550 camera that I want to use at a concert to take pictures and I'm just wondering if someone could help me out with the settings that would get me the best pictures? Thanks.

Don't make the mistake that every compact digital camera owner makes, turn the flash off. The little flash is only good for 10-15 feet, regardless of the zoom factor of the camera.

With the flash forced off, the camera will automatically turn the ISO up so you have a chance to get a concert shot. Remember to be as still as possible.

Even better, after forcing the flash to the off position, set the ISO manually. Try 400 at the concert, check the pics for blur. If they are fine, leave it there. If there's a slight softness/blur, try 800, and repeat.

Use the lowest ISO that freezes the action because noise gets bad at 800 and beyond with compact cameras.

And finally, practice at home before you go. Try taking indoor shots without the flash, learn how to turn the flash off and change the ISO manually, learn it by heart so you aren't lost at the show.

I have been trying out how panorama works on the nikon coolpix s550 but i have had no luck what so ever! PLEASE HELP!

Cameras with panorama functions tend to give you a guide as to how much to overlap each photo in the panorama. So take the first photo, then move to your right slightly and watch the guide. Take the next photo. Repeat.
Keep your horizon level (good idea to use a tripod).
