Nikon Coolpix S710

I do not believe that there is an icon on the screen, but it would be nice to know.

probably not, like most compact cameras, some of the new ones that are coming out these days have this feature.

I am trying to find out if this setting is available in this model. I like everything else about it, but really want this setting. The details are not exact enough.

I looked at several reviews on line. None mentioned anything about a black & white or sepia mode. My conclusion is that the S710 does not have those options.

Of course, you could call Nikon at 1-800-645-6689 and ask them.

I think this is the camera i'm going to get. It has a larger sensor than most point an shoot digital cameras, has 14 megapixels( even though that's kind of overkill), a wide angle lens, and has aperture and shutter speed priority along with letting you go fully manual. Most digital camera don't have aperture and shutter speed priority especially in the compact size the nikon comes in. It also has a very high iso ranging from 80 - 3200 and even 6400 and ISO 12800. I don't know if the pictures will be unusable at such a high iso but still I dont know any other point and shoot camera that can go that high. And it has the Nikons New expeed image processing. Overall I think it looks like a pretty nice camera.

Another camera i'm looking at though is the canon powershot SD990 Is.

I am looking 4 an advanced point & shoot...I am a professional photographer looking for something that I can easily carry around instead of my DSLR. So far I like Nikon coolpix s710 and Canon SD780. But I can decide between the two. Does anyone have any pros/cons to either camera model or suggestions?

p.s. My DSLR is a Nikon, but my old (now broken) digital point & shoot is a Canon...and I've had many Canon's in the past when I was more of a beginner.

Canon compact cameras are generally a lot better than Nikon compact cameras when it comes to image quality...and a number of Nikon compacts also suffer from sluggish operation and shutter lag, and the S710 is no exception.

After reading the review below (from DP Review) you will see that the Nikon S710 is not that good.

They tested 6 cameras for Image Quality outdoors/daylight, Image Quality Low Light/high ISO and Image Quality Performance:flash.

The S710 came middle in the first test and scored bottom in the other two.

They tested the SD880 IS, not the SD780 IS...but, you should see similar performance.

The good thing about the SD780 IS is that it records video in HD (1280 x 720) and has a viewfinder. It's also available in a few different body colours...the black looks good. However, it's let down by no aperture or shutter priority modes. You'll need to look at the SX200 IS (or maybe one or two other models) if you want full manual control.

The worst thing about most compact cameras is their poor high ISO capability, due to their very small sized sensors. So, when shooting in low light you obviously won't get the same noise free images you get with your dSLR.

Yes,both Nikon S710,P90 and L100 have movie mode.
