Can anyone tell me what country the Nikon D300 camera body is manufactured in?

Presently, the F6, the D3 and some high-end lenses and specialty products (i.e. the SP/S3 reissues) are made at the Sendai plant in Japan. All other products are made at the Thailand plant.

All the D300 bodies made in Thailand prior to release and stockpiled had to pass back through Japan, where they got a firmware upgrade to the production version.

Buying Used Nikon D300 what you think?

I'm looking to buy a Used Nikon D300 BODY only for $1100 .

What you think ? Good camera Good price ?

Can I find a cheaper one ?

Thanks
I'm Buying it cash there is no return policy .

Personally, I think you would be better off with a new D90 than a used D300. The measurable results are amazingly similar for these 2 cameras. In fact the D90 scores higher. Check out this comparison.

Nikon D80 or Nikon D300?

hey, i just bought a Nikon D80 with a Nikkor 18-70, lens. I love this camera thus far especially as my first SLR. But I bought it slightly used [both body and lens] for $700. Should i sell it for $700-$800 [i may have a buyer if i do decide to sell it] and get a Nikon D300? I saw a NEW Nikon D300 [body only] for only $799.99. It's not a refurb or anything, authentically new. What do you suggest? Is my Nikon D80 good enough, or should I just go for the Nikon D300?

That's gotta be a typo! That camera is more like $1799. If it is actually for $799, which I doubt, it must be gray market and will have no warranty or support from Nikon at all!..

Is the Nikon D700 worth the extra $1,000 over the Nikon D300?

The Nikon D300 body sells for around $1,800 and the D700 sells for $2,800. I've been saving up for the D300, but not sure if the D700 is worth spending an extra $1,000.

Right now I have about $2,500 saved up.

Not interested in saving up for Nikon D3 (~$4,000 + lenses) unless it's THAT much better

-I know how ISO, aperture, exposure, etc work, and prefer to manually adjust my camera settings. I've been into photography for a couple years and want to upgrade my current camera (Canon S5IS)

I love my D300 it has performed beyond my expectations. Its seems to be as rugged and dependable as my Nikon F2 and I never thought an electronic camera would make me say that. It if chocked full of functions probably more than I will ever use but its nice to have them available.. The D300 will use any accessories that come with other Nikons you already have but know in advance the user manual for the D300 is around 500 pages. That does not mean you have to read and memorize all of them to use it. If you are comfortable with P,A,S and M settings on your current camera you will be able to use them on your D300. You will have buttons rather than menus to change all of the more common functions like ISO. You will have more options for focus modes and metering but you can start with it on 51 point 3D tracking and matrix metering and it will do a pretty good job for you while you are learniing to use the other meter and focus settngs..

That said not everyone needs the functions this camera has and there is no sense paying for them if you do not need the build quality or functions/ If you are planning to keep the camera only a few years and move on the another the money may be better spent on a D90 or D5000. If you want to use it for a decade or more the D300 is the way to go. Go to Nikon USA and look at the comparison chart to see which is right for you

The D90 mentioned is a good camera there is no doubt about it and if you want video you should look at that or the D5000 however while the features are similar between the D90 and D300 the extra money goes for the build quality. The D300 has a magnesium frame and much more in the department of moisture and dust seals. Its built to stand up to harder more demanding use. Other major differences the D90 has an 11 point autofocus the d300 a 51 point with 3D tracking Different exposure metering 1,005-pixel RGB sensor 3D Color Matrix Metering II on the D300 vs 420 pixel RGB sensor 3D Color Matrix Metering II On the D90. Shutter speed on the D300 goess to 1/8000 sec on the D90 to 1/4000. Slightly faster flash sync speed on the D300. Slightly more shots per battery charge on the D300 and so on.

The D700 is built on the same frame with the same weathersealing as the D300. It adds the full frame sensor and a new image processor . Larger sensor equals larger pixels which means more light per pixel and that yeilds better geometric accuracy, better tonal range, better dynamic range and lower noise. Thats the biggest reason it cost more than the D300/ I cannot answer if you have a need for that. I would like a hasselblad H3DII-50 because its medium format sensor is even better than a D700 or D3Xs full frame sensor but I do not need it. If the D700 had been out when I bought my D300 though I personally would have gotten it.
