I just bought the Elinchrom 2 Light 400BX light KIT, it came with sync cables , though... when I plug the 3.5mm end into the light, it's fine, but the other 'pc' end is a bit smaller than my Nikon D300 port, it WILL go in, but it slides out very easily and does not snap. It also does work, but again it's obvious its not meant to fit, I guess these things aren't really universal, so what's the best solution, also i've been told it's much better to use a hot shoe anyhow, but what is the size needed for the elinchrom cable?
Before you start pluging anything into your $1700 camera call Nikon USA's free live tech help line, (800) NIKON-UX, they are open all the time, 24/7/365
Hot shoe adapters; if they use any trigger voltage higher than 12v, you can fry your cameras electronics ... not covered by Nikon's warranty.
I use a Pocket Wizard when using studio flash units.

I am using the canon 40d right now with the kit lens. But recently my friend gave me a bunch of Nikon lenses.
AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
AF Zoom-NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED
AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED
AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Should I sell my Canon 40d with kit lens only and get a Nikon body?
If so, which one should I get from the Nikon? Should I get the Nikon d90 or the Nikon d300?
Thanks
If you sufficient budget than go to D300, It is best deal and great Camera.

I have narrowed my choice of cameras to the Nikon and the Canon as stated. I am looking for some thoughtful opinions on what may be the best camera purchase for me.
I have several levels of "point and shoot" cameras and this will be my first foray into SLR. I anticipate this will be an all purpose camera for me -- kids, dogs, wildlife, landscapes... The whole kit and caboodle.
Before someone mentions that either of these are too much camera for what I am looking for: I have already considered this at length. Photography is something that interests me as an ongoing hobby. I can afford the two cameras I have mentioned and am willing to also make a time investment to learn the intricacies of the cameras both on my own and possibly through some lessons with local photographers. I very much want a camera I will grow into and not out of.
I am considering the Canon with a 18-200 lens kit to start me out. The Nikon would also begin with a similar lens kit
Some things I have been considering:
My brother has an older Canon, I believe it may be a 30D. As such, he does have a few decent lenses and is willing to share.
The Canon appears more user friendly at first glance, with several near "point and shoot" options added to the menu for times when I am lazy or perhaps I hand the camera to a family member to shoot something. Reviews seem to consistently state that the Canon menu is more intuitive and user friendly.
The AF points on the Nikon are so much greater than on the Canon. Is this something I should be concerning myself with greatly?
The weather seal on the Nikon is superior. Now I have enough sense to get in out of the rain and I am not being paid as a professional photographer to stand out in inclement weather and take pictures for hours at a time. That being said - how much of a concern is the weather sealing to me?
I had almost settled on the Canon with the above mentioned lens, but the online reviews are driving me crazy with nearly every single one pointing to the Nikon as the superior camera. I am trying not to get bogged down with that, but I admit it does bother me that I am spending a similar amount (I am considering =/-$500 similar) for an inferior camera.
Should that be a concern for me, or should I be putting higher value on the fact that it seems to be in agreement that the Canon is more user-friendly out of the box and I may enjoy it more in the meantime until my camera skills are more finely tuned? I know that I am effectively making a purchase which will marry me to one of these camera brands, unlike the prior ability I have had to bounce between manufacturers with point and clicks.
Thank you in advance for any opinions on this!
That should have been +/- $500. I am okay with that price range and do not want to make the decision solely on price.
Both are great cameras and will serve you well. The D300 may be slightly better but honestly you will never notice the difference. By the time you did both cameras would be well past their prime. The D300 does have some weather sealing but it is not the kind of weather sealing that would be on the Nikon D3 or the Canon 1D's. Those cameras are truly sealed.
Generally I would say that it is really a personal preference but this time I will say that you should go with the Canon. The biggest reason is that your brother has a 30D. If you have access to any of his lenses this is a big benefit. Lenses are very expensive. Good lenses from either company can easily cost as much as the camera. More for real good ones. Also the 30D and 50D are similar in operation. If you have used the 30D you will jump right into the 50D.
Which is better camera, i could had get 40d with kit lens for like 900 less than D300.
In terms of image quality, they are roughly equal. However, the Nikon D300 is a much more advanced camera and worth the extra $900 over the Canon 40D for those features.
Both are excellent cameras and you should pick the camera that feels right in your hands. Handle both cameras and make your decision.
But if it were me, it would be the Nikon D300.
I noticed there's a tiny dirt on my 105mm so I decided to clean it eventhough im quite hesitant coz I've never cleaned a lens so delicate. I am petrified to 'destroy' my preciuos lens, at the same time, I dont want dirt to accumulate on it. So, I took the risk and borrowed a friends lens cleaning kit consisting of air blower (NOT the canned), micro-fiber cloth (if I remember it right), and a liquid of some sort that comes with it. Before I started, I even read some tips/procedure on the net on the proper way of cleaning lenses so as to do it perfectly. First, I blow the dust out. Next, I wet the cloth with the liquid , gently wipe the lens and dried it with a dry fiber cloth, put back the lens cover. After a couple of hours, while I was taking photos of flowers in a flower shop, I was SHOCKED to see this one photo: while the image was captured in full, the lower half of it was in purple or violet. I was terribly shocked that I immediately delete it. Some say its d flashcard. HELP!
Could you take another--and post it to http://www.flickr.com so we can see.
It should not have really affected the photo. Unless you smear it with Vaseline or something.
Did you have a UV filter to protect it? People will endlessly argue about the pro and the con of having a filter--and this is exactly the reason why I do--to protect it.

Nikon Cleaning Combo Kit: Nikon 3-Piece Lens Cleaning Kit + Nikon ...
I just returned from an extended vacation, anytime I needed a cleaning tool, it was in the kit and in my bag. Cleaning towel was really nice and a great improvement to the little paper wipes usually provided. I also needed the blower and pen as I was swapping lenses all the time and it was right there in my kit. I Like the retractable pen, the previous brush I had got kinked and dirty from being loose in the bag. Good tool set. I took a while choosing this set to make sure that my needs and habits were filled. I recommend this to anyone traveling and taking photos.
