My question is pretty self explanatory. I have these old lenses from my dad's Nikkromat EL film camera and i wan to know weather or not they're fit on a new SLR D40 or D60?
++++ Does anyone know about the Minolta SRT? I have one of those passed down from my mom and I get the impression they're basically useless since the batteries are mercury. Is there any way I could put this camera to use as well?
The entry level Nikon bodies (D40 and D60) are designed to use the new AF-S, ultra fast auto-focus lenses.
If you want to use you dads old lenses, look at a good used Nikon D70 ... it will use all the old AI Nikon lenses and older lenses if converted (about $25).
I use lenses on my D300 that were made in the 1970's .... and yes, my dad gave me his old Nikkormat EL. I had the 55 mm macro lens converted to AI and use it quite a bit
Atane from JR.com gives us an overview of the Nikon D40 camera, a great entry level DSLR. For more info on the Nikon D40, go here: www.jr.com
just looking for a nikon d40 body online with all the necessary accessories but lenses aren't important. if you know a good website that has cheap prices and isn't some sort of scam please let me know. referbs are fine as well. yahoo and froogle have been giving me scam shops and bait and switch places so if you have a reliable source it would be greatly appreciated!
If you're looking for a new D40 you will find most reputable dealers within about $50.00 of each other. Most dealers are packaging a kit lens with new D40's, so you may have some difficulty finding a new D40 body by itself.
If you're looking for a used body, I would recommend KEH. They have a good rating system for their used equipment, plus they do offer a limited waranty on their used equipment and they do have a reasonable return policy.

I have also bought a lot of new equipment through Amazon.com without any problems. I usually do some checking with on-line dealers such as Adorama, B&H, or Beach Camera to check prices.

My goal is to be one of the greats in the fashion and beauty business period. All you digital camera professionals. Please advise me on what should I do about buying my Nikon D40. Should I buy the body only and buy the Tamron 18-250 lens or buy the Nikon D40 w its lens and also buy the Tamron 18-250 lens....if so why...if no why not? Thank you for your help :)
In the U.S., the D40 is sold with the 18-55mm kit lens. If it comes without a lens, I would be suspicious of the seller as you are getting used or grey market gear. Use the 18-55 lens for a few months so you can figure out what other lenses you need. You're kind of limited by lens selection with the low-end Nikon DSLR cameras since they need to be AF-S lenses (focus motor built in to the lens) if you want auto focus.
If you're serious about going into fashion photography, the D40 is a bit limiting. Better to find a used D80 or get a D90 or something similar in the Canon lineup. This allows you to use a wide range of Nikon lenses going back decades (Canon lenses only go back 20 years) as the camera body will accept the newer AF-S lenses and the older lenses that require a focus motor in the camera body. It also allows you to use Nikon's creative lighting system. One cool feature of the D90, and other modern Nikon cameras, is chromatic aberration correction which will get rid of the color fringing on cheap lenses. It works remarkably well.
The Tamron lens will not be a good lens for portrait photography. It is fine for taking daytime pictures of critters and candid shots. The Tamron lens will be too slow (aperture isn't big enough), have distortion and ugly chromatic aberrations. Portrait lenses for APS-C sensors will be in the 50mm to 100mm range and will have a wide aperture in the f/1.4 to f/2.8 range so you can control depth of field.
You will need to take photography courses to master camera details, composition, and lighting. It also helps if you can be a flunky for a portrait photographer to see how they do things. Lots to learn!

NO!!
Fotoconnection is a scam. Read the horror stories here if you want - over 500 of them: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Fot oConnection_1
Here are my favorite stores for camera gear:
http://www.adorama.com
http://www.amazon.com

And needless to say, the D40 and the 18-200 make a very nice combo.

How much is a Nikon D40 Body with extras worth?
I have the D40 Body with the strap
4 GB memory card, with USB adapter
Nikon battery with AC charger
UV filter
Cap for the body plus caps for lenses
I also have screw on lens adapters.
They screw onto the end of the lenses. I used them on a 18-55mm lens.
One of them is 2.0x telephoto lens
Other is 0.45x wide lens with macro
Both of these adapters are made in Japan by Merkury
I'm not sure if I'm going to sell these with the body or not.
Thanks
*EDIT*
The body is in almost brand new cond. Doesnt have a scratch on it
Since it is used and without warranty, you could expect to get about $400 for it. I recently saw a local shop selling a D40 with lens and starter kit for $500. The warranty is worth the difference.

Here is my first question…http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtSNXBCSN7HD3MP0ChPCUSvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071011110316AAwtSBp
My camera I have now is 10.3 mp. I don’t know if I could handle going to just a Nikon d40 because of the less megapixels ( about 6 ). Should i go with the D80 or the D40x. I like the body and weight of the D40x but the D80 has better features and cost a lot more. Help!!! Or should i go with an Olympus? The OLYMPUS EVOLT E-410
I have the D40x and I personally think that it has more than enough mega-pixels. With an SLR mega-pixels really aren’t as important as on a point-and-shoot. Yes, they are important, but when you take into consideration the fact that you can change lenses… you can loose mega-pixels but not loose quality.
One important thing to consider is price. Play with a bunch of cameras and find one that you like before you buy it. Unless you can afford to spend another $1000 next year on a new camera, think before you buy. You might want to spring for the D80 – but can you afford it – and do you *need* it?
