How good is the Nikon D40 digital camera?
Nikon roadmap - timeline UPDATED Q2 2011

A good friend who is a photographer highly recommended the Nikon D40 camera, and other reviews online seem to be good, as well. I really enjoy taking pictures, and I'm ready to take it to the next level, and I'm wondering if this is a good camera to use to do that?

The D40 is a good, basic entry-level DSLR - but its been discontinued. Its a 3 yr. old design with the limitations you'd expect from a camera that is technologically out of date.

You can find new, 2009 models from Sony, Pentax, Canon, Olympus and Nikon for about the same price.

I suggest reading reviews/comparisons of every DSLR in your price range and then making a decision. Check at http://www.dpreview.com

Need help with a Nikon D40 digital camera and a wide angle lens?
Kereta Merah

I have a Nikon D40 digital camera and bought a wide angle lens. I don't know a lot about photography, I had to use this kind of camera for a job. My photos are supposed to be set for the widest angle for the lens (24mm). Is there a way to set this up using my camera menu? Help! Thanks.

No use the zoom ring on the lens. There will be a crop factor in play here the 24 will be like a 36 mm lens.

Does anyone know how to use a universal tv remote with a Nikon d40 digital camera.?
Laundry Night

The one you can buy is easy to lose I would like a backup.

That would depend on the type of universal remote. Most just allow you to select codes from a long list that are built in. But I did have a learning universal remote that had a receiver and transmitter built in, where you would point the two remotes toward each other and put the universal remote into learn mode and then touch the buttons first on the programming remote and then on the learning remote. If I am not mistaken I got the universal learning remote at Radio Shack.

My suggestion would be not to carry the remote with you the cost of the remote I had would be more than the cost of replacing a small remote for your Nikon.

Does anyone own a Nikon D40 digital camera?
pic of pic

when going to take a photo, the image i'm trying to shoot doesnt appear on the digital screen. I can look through the view finder, take a picture and it will appear on the screen. But I want to be able to see what I am trying to take a picture of before I take it. Help anyone?

SLR camera don't have "live view" as regular digital cameras do. I have a Nikon D80, and I have never loved a camera as much as I love this one. It took some getting used to at first as I had a camera with "live view" before my SLR, but I would never go back now.

How do you upload pictures from a D40 Nikon digital camera?
Nikon D40 Sensor Defect?

I want to uplooad some pictures to my computer but I have no idea how to. Help????

The two above posters are right ... however, those of us who have been shooting digital images for many years, use card readers ... either those on our computers or by using a 2.0 USB card reader (about $10)

  • Where To Find The Best SLR Digital Camera | reservationsfor2.com

The SLR cameras are referred to this way because of their ability to preview an image in the view finder before it is actually taken. The one reason DSLR cameras are more preferable is they can easily change lenses in taking various photographic scenes.

What I am saying is that with a non SLR camera the angle of the view finder does not give an accurate representation of what the image will look like after you have taken it. The image becomes even more distorted if you have to zoom in or out. The advantages of a DSLR camera then become evident here; they will be able to show you exactly how the picture will look like after you have taken it. Some of the best SLR cameras are to be found from anyone of following: best canon camera sony digital camera nikon cameras sa

Someone who already knows how to take pictures would take even more beautiful pictures with a DSLR camera. The price of the technology that is used in these cameras is not that costly anymore and you can find a relatively cheap and affordable camera.
