I was wondering if the Nikon D5000 kit on Amazon comes with everything (neckstrap, TV cable, 18-55 lens, battery, battery charger, etc.) like if I was to buy it off of Nikon. It doesn't say it has all those things but I was wondering if it did and just didn't list it.
Yes, it will come with everything. The body, lens, strap, charger, battery, and the other extras will all be in the box.
Ordered a Nikon D5000 18-55mm VR Kit through the employee Personal Purchase program offered by Nikon. Also picked up the Nikkor 55-200mm VR ...
Which one is the best??? Any suggestions...
The Nikon D90 and the D5000 take pictures of the same quality because they share much of the internal components between them. The main difference between the two is that the D90 has the auto focus motor built into the body whereas the D5000 does not, and of course the D90 has higher component specs and features. The first two links are a great review of the D90 and D5000.
The best prices I could find for the D90 are from camerakings.com. $865.00 for the body only, $974.00 with Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED II Lens, $1,109.00 with Nikon 18-105mm VR Lens, and $1,137.00 with Nikon 18-55mm AF-S DX ED II & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 AF-S DX Lens.
The best prices I could find for the D5000 are from camerakings.com. $619.00 for the body only, $719.00 with Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED II Lens, $909.00 with Nikon with Nikon 18-55mm AF-S DX ED II & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 AF-S DX Lens and $1,393.00 with Nikon 18-105mm VR & 70-300 VR AF-S Lens.
Another option is to purchase the D90 body ($865.00) or D5000 body ($619.00) and purchase a third party lens like the Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Lens for $254.00 with $60.00 mail in rebate (one of the best deals available right now, unfortunately it does not have (VC) vibration compensation, but for the price you will not find a better deal on a lens like this) or a Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC LD Asph. AF Macro Lens for $549.99 with a $70.00 mail in rebate (this lens has VC and longer focal length but cost more than double the 18-200mm lens). The mail in rebates for the Tamron lenses are good until the end of December. All the prices I quoted include free shipping from camerakings.com.
One of the main reasons I prefer the Nikon's over the Canon's and Sony's is that they have a separate auto focus assist lamp built into the body (on all models) whereas the Canon and Sony use their flash to perform this function. In certain situations, using the flash as a AF assist lamp can interfere with your shot. I am surprised that Canon and Sony still use flash for AF assist on their lower end models because on their upper end models they have separate AF assist lamps.
If you decide to use older 35mm film lenses, the thing you have to remember about using older 35mm lenses with the D90 or D5000 is that you have to multiply the focal lenght by 1.5 because the sensor is smaller than the original 35mm film. What this means is that your 18-200mm lens on the D90 would become a 27-300mm lens. Check out second link for a compatibility chart of Nikon lenses and bodies.
You can't really go wrong with either camera because they have the same picture quality. I know it is a hard choice but if you can afford it I'd go with the D90 instead. Take a look at the links below for more information and where to purchase.

Which is better overall camera for the value? Video? and kit lens
Pentax K-x kit for $550
Nikon D5000 kit for $645
Nikon D5000 body for $550
Canon T1i kit for $719
Canon T1i Body for $620
The better camera for the value is Pentax K-x, which you may buy with single or double kit lenses for a very convenient price.
Image quality is similar for all three models. However, Nikon D5000 is more difficult to use for the advanced photographer, who might want to change the setup before each shot; you've got to press a lot of buttons to achieve the custom setup you want. Canon T1i is exactly the opposite of the Nikon in this respect; it has additional buttons for quick setup and also changing settings from the menu is very quick. Pentax K-x can be set up just as quick as Canon T1i, but it has a design flaw (it lacks confirmation of the focus point in the viewfinder, when setup to select the focus point automatically) which can handled with a bit of attention.
Therefore, if you are an advanced photographer (or willing to become one) and you're willing to spend a lot of cash on lenses, Canon T1i is the obvious choice. If you are an advanced photographer but you don't want to spend a lot of cash (on camera and lenses), Pentax K-x is the choice. Otherwise, if you just want to point and shoot and you don't want to worry about auto-focus confirmation, Nikon D5000 may be the answer.
High Quality Lenses
Specifically designed for Nikon D3000 and D5000
Should I buy the Nikon D3000 kit that comes with 18-55mm VR Lens AND 55-200mm DX Lens for $650 or the Nikon D5000 kit that ONLY comes with 18-55mm VR Lens for $700.
I'm really stuck between both...it's so frustrating!
I want the D5000 because it shoots video but the D3000 kit is an amazing deal...so idk which I should get.
Any help is appreciated :)
You have to decide which is more important to you, nobody can help you on that.
If video is important to you, then get the D5000; else get the D3000 with extra 55-200mm lens since it allows you to take photos otherwise not possible with D5000 with just 1 lens.
If you need help to swing you in one direction:
I have friends who complain 18-55mm lens doesn't have enough reach, but non complain anything about video. It's a camera, it's suppose to take picture. D5000 video doesn't have autofocus anyway, and 18-55mm lens isn't very manual-focus-friendly. So you'd probably end up not using the video function.
No and you will also need to buy some memory cards and a UV filter as well.
You can use a generic backpack as a camera bag - under $30

Nikon D5000 - HD Video Depth of field test - 70 to 300mm tele ...
This is a quick Depth of Field Video Test Nikon D5000.I closed the exposure. I have a "Quantaray Tech-10" 70 to 300mm telephoto macro lens for this video. The aperture was fully open. The Nikon D90, the video quality much better compared to the D5000. I say this because it is much less shaky (Rolling shutter) effect. The D90 is not only useful for video, while the D5000 can be used very much for great video. The sound quality is not the greatest, but it will have done the work;unless you are in an extremely noisy environment. Although be careful when buying this camera, Nikon has put a recall on this model out of service, only go to the Nikon website, and they have a page, the serial number for you to check to see if your camera falls within the recalls.
