hello, im planning on buying a D-SLR.
I was just wondering if the nikon D5000 was the best for me.
im a beginner with SLR, but im planning on learning, and using it pretty much everyday. my question is, i mostly take pictures of animals ( horses most of the time) and nature, outside world. would the nikon D5000 be the best for that?

Yes. I would recommend Nikon D5000 12.3MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR Lenses and 2.7 inch Vari-angle LCD

How many pictures is the Nikon D5000 good for, any tips for the new camera?
two eleven

I just bought the new Nikon d5000 , I am wondering how many pictures would this camera be able to take over its life before the internal parts start to ware down.I did spend the 200 extra for the 4 year warranty.
Also does anybody have any good info or tips I could use with my new camera?

The shutter is the primary moving part that is subject to wear. Most shutters these days are rated for 100,000 actuations, and there are plenty of people who have used cameras well beyond that. While the technology may be considered obsolete in only a year or two, the camera itself should last a very long time.

What is the best setting for the Nikon D5000 in a yellow- low lit indoor area like a church?
Peering

Can someone explain to me in detail what the best and simplest setting would be for the Nikon D5000 when shooting photos in a church or low lit indoor area? All answers will be considered.
I am using an 18-55mm lens.
No need for criticism answerer three. Or jumping to conclusions. I could be attending an upcoming wedding. Thanks kindly to all others. I am getting excellent advice.

1) set the white balance to incandescent
2) set the camera to aperture priority -- shoot wide open
3) set the ISO high enough to produce shutter speeds high enough hand hold the camera without getting blur caused by camera movement

What is the difference between Nikon D90 n Nikon D5000 ?
Schloss // Lock

I am planning to buy Nikon d90 but recently Nikon launched D5000 which is nearly similar to the D90 features. The main difference is on its price..it is $300 less than D90.
I just want to know why D5000 costs cheaper than D90 !! is there any technical difference or something differ in the features of these two !!

The biggest differences will be in build quality and ease of using the camera in the manual mode. The D90 is meant for someone who has some photographic experience with SLR's. The D5000 is designed for someone who is new to SLR cameras.

Image quality will be virtually the same. The D90 will do better at ISO settings above 800 but then only moderately.

How do i do Dslr time lapses of the stars with my Nikon D5000?
Sunset Clouds (SOOC)

hey i just have a few questions regarding time lapse. it would be great if you could help me out.
1. i have a nikon D5000 with an 18-55 lens and a 55-200... what would be better for time lapses out of what i have?
2. what is an ideal shutter speed, aperture, iso, interval and time between intervals?
3. and when i put it all together what would be the right frame rate use.

Thank you for your help!

Rocky Nook have just announced a new title, Mastering the Nikon D5000 by Darrell Young. Darrell’s approach in teaching the reader to master this camera avoids the purely instructional technique, favouring a more friendly and advisory tone, the publisher says. He blends his decades of Nikon camera experience with an intuitive understanding of the readers’ most likely questions regarding specific camera functions and features. Rather than just list all options for the myriad of camera settings and adjustments, he explains the background behind each setting and shares his personal recommendations. Mastering the Nikon D5000 is available now, priced at $34.95.
