I have a new Nikon D80 Digital SLR camera. Any good resources to learn how to use it?
Nikon rocks !

I have had a 35 mm SLR Nikon forever but the digital is a little overwhelming!

The fastest and least frustrating way is to take a class in photography using your 35 mm SLR.

The cool thing about DSLR's is you can directly transfer you skills using a 35 mm SLR to the new digital SLR. The convenience of not having to change film to use a different ISO or colour balance is perhaps the most helpful of all the features of an digital camera

As far as learning to use the added features found on DSLR's, just use your users manual and try one at a time until you fully understand how it works and when to use it.

Look on page 84 of your manual ... this can be a fun tool when you mount your camera on a tripod and shoot multiple exposure on the same frame

On thing you may find convenient is to download the users manual to your computer and then use the Adobe Acrobat "find" feature to search for specific features in the manual

i will buy a camera, what do u think should i buy? the Nikon D80 SLR digital camera,Olympus's E-10 SLR digital
My newest toy

ill be using it in photography so what do u think is the best camera that i can used?

If you are talking about the E-510, I already have one. It's a great camera with a full range of digital Zuiko lenses avilable. It also has in body IS, so all lenses have IS. Not just a few expensive ones. Even my T-mount 420-800mm lense benefits. The E-510 actually compares well in features and quality to the D80. Olympus has been a top maker of quality cameras for a long time. Olympus tends to be a better value overall.

Photo delay with Nikon D80 digital SLR camera?

Tonight I went to take pictures of my school's band for yearbook.
We use Nikon D80s.
For unknown reasons, all three of our cameras tend to have issues with delaying photos after a while and we can't figure out why in the settings or anything.
Most shoots it will work fine and then suddenly it refuses to take a shot and when it finally agrees to let anyone take a photo, it makes things darker or blurry.
The only way to make it shoot without delay is to override the shutter hold bu pressing the AE-L/AF-L button after holding down the shutter release.
And then it causes unsatisfactory photos.
Conditions can be of all sorts and sometimes unchanging when it starts to give difficulty.
Any idea what's going on with these things?
No one is changing anything on the cameras from before problems to afterwards and even our teacher is having issues with them

This is taken from Ken Rockwell's guide to the D80. You may have changed the autofocus to AF-S. When that happens, the camera won't take a picture until the focus is exact, and will lock the camera if the subject has moved. I've done that accidently on my D70 and D200, so I know how frustrating it can be.

Nikon D80 AF Mode Selector.

The three AF modes, AF-A, AF-S and AF-C, are selected with the AF Mode Selector. Press it and spin the rear dial to select among them.

AF-A, the default I use, magically selects between the next two modes. More expensive (and older) Nikons don't have this clever mode, ha ha. This clever AF-A mode looks at the subject. If it's holding still, the D80 locks the focus. If the subject is moving, the D80 tracks it as it moves nearer and farther.

AF-S stands for AF-Single. The D80 focuses once, then locks AF for you to recompose and shoot.

AF-C stands for AF-Continuous. The D80 keeps focusing as the subject changes distance. Use this for sports and vehicles in motion, like cars, birds and aircraft. For clarification, this is only tracking in the z (distance) directly. This isn't related to x-y motion, which refers to selecting various AF sensors across the finder as covered below.

Is the Nikon D80 or Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera a better choice?

I will soon begin doing some photography on the side and am interested in purchasing a good, quality camera. I'm new to the digital SLR cameras and need some advice on which camera is a better purchase for photographers.
