I am considering to buy Canon 1000D 18-55 mm with aditional objective 75-300mm or Olympus E 420 14-42 mm with another objective 40-150 mm. Those cameras are sold with 2 obectives. Please, would you advice which one is better. The difference in price is 100 euro. I am not a professional photographer. Thank you!
After reviewing them both i would go with the olympus camera but would recommend that you buy a better lens.

The Nikon model is D40X with focal length of 18-55 but the Olympus, Model E-410 comes with 2 different lenses;one with length of 14-42 and the other with 40-150. now i don't know which one has a better quality.can anybody help me. it's my husband Xmas gift. thanks.
Does your husband already have a 35mm film camera? If so I would recommend getting a digital outfit made by the same company since he might be able to use some of his lenses (if any).
Also, has he expressed an interest in a favorite brand. Many years ago my wife bought me a 35mm camera outfit for Christmas. I didn't have a 35mm camera at the time, it had been stolen from our apartment a couple of years eariler, and we hadn't been able to replace it. It was a Nikkormat FS with a Nikkor f/2.8 35mm lens. She found a used Nikon EM outfit, a very basic entry level 35mm camera, which I still have and which still takes great pictures. I still remember it as one of the best Christmas presents she ever got me.
If your husband doesn't have a prefence, he would probably be just as happy with either. Both are good cameras, but he might like having the second lens offered with the Olympus.

I'm considering purchasing my first DSRL and I'm not sure which one to choose... I can get both of these for the same price... E-520 comes with standard 14-42 lens and 40-150 lens, A300 comes with standard 18-70 lens and 70-300 lens... any ideas which one to pick? I can get both for $450...
I actually use Olympus (an E-300 and E-510) myself, based on those options you have, I would buy the Sony simply because of the lens selection it comes with. Both cameras are great and offer high quality results. In 35mm terms, the Olympus lenses cover 28-84mm and 80-300mm, while the Sony lenses cover 27-105mm and 105-450mm. I will also mention that when I first bought my Olympus, Sony was not making DSLRs, they bought the Konica Minolta camera business shortly after.
does anyone carry the E510 with both kit lenses? I can only find it with the 14-42, but I know it is also available with the 40-150.
or, if I order it from say, B&H in New York, will I have to pay huge customs duty before I can get it? It is MUCH cheaper in the states, particularly with the exchange rate now in Canada's favour.
Call Arthur at KEH and order one from him. They have a toll free number, find it b y going to www.keh.com

Review of Olympus Evolt E520 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 14-42mm ...
The E-520 is my very first DSLR and I have had it now since April ‘09 (the Easter Bunny brought it
and I can’t say enough good things about this camera or this combo.
The camera body is lightweight enough to carry all day without getting tired but sturdy enough to not feel “cheap”.The two kit lenses cover most of the distances the average user will want or need, and again neither one is a back-breaker.I use the 40-150mm when I am going to spend a day at the zoo to bring the animals closer to me (since they won’t let me get closer to them
.
One really nifty feature that the camera offers is the ability to use Live View Boost to focus and frame pictures with an infrared filter in place on the front of the lens and to actually see what the camera will record.Pretty cool.
The controls are easy to use and I think the only challenge I have encountered where they are concerned is not in using them but in remembering what to use when and to remember what menu it is under. Fortunately, most of the things you will need most often (wb, AF, Flash, ISO, etc.) also have dedicated buttons easy to find right there on the camera body. You can also set your own custom profile combos to allow you to quickly switch from one set up to another without having to remember what you did the last time that you liked.
