Olympus Digital Camera Waterproof

I know this sounds like a stupid question, it had waterproof in the description i was just wondering if anyone knew how deep it could go.... or would that mean splash proof???

Digitalcamerainfo.com previews the Olympus 1030SW waterproof digital camera, launched at the PMA show in Las Vegas.

I've heard of far too many cases of people saying that their Olympus waterproof camera had leaking seals.
I need it for holidays (going to the USA), and can't risk buying an Olympus if it might leak.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend an Olympus model that isn't prone to leaking seals,
Or can anyone tell me how the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 performs in comparison (picture quality, speed, practicality etc.)

A Panasonic Lumix TS1 series camera is the best waterproof camera you can get (it might also be the most expensive one).

A lot of people have had problems with the image results when they took pictures with the Olympus Stylus Tough-8000, so it's probably a good thing that you didn't buy it. The Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP and the Canon D10 cameras are your other options. The most affordable you could get is the Fuifilm FinePix Z33WP.

we saw a boxing day ad for this camera but my husband thinks it might just be a regular digital camera with a 'waterproof' case. has anyone seen this camera in person? is the camera itself waterproof? we're having a hard time finding info on it online.

the oly stylus 550wp is a waterproof camera, not a camera inside a clear case. it is similar, but less expensive than the stylus 8000 "tough".

i have this camera and like it very much. if you plan to use this in the water, i recommend you get the optional floatation strap. it will sink if you let go underwater and is only waterproof to 10 foot depth.

Ok, i was thinking about getting that certain model through sams club. I was wondering what Stylus means. I know it sounds like a dumb question but please help?

Actually, it has no real purpose in their names. It's one of those things they just did because it sounds cool. It's like Sony Alpha... Alpha being unrelated for the most part, and let's not even get started on the Canon Elph... that's not even a word (I think).

So, answer is it doesn't mean anything. Just remember... the camera is waterproof (put it in the water, but make sure it's on first. If you turn it on and off under the water the lens will start to suck water inside and it'll short out on you.)

I am considering buying the OLYMPUS Stylus 550WP Blue 10.0 MP 2.5" LCD 3X Optical Zoom Waterproof Digital Camera with the open box policy from newegg. Would this be a mistake? Would the camera somehow not be waterproof?? It would be a savings of $40 if I bought it the open box way. Is it worth the risk?

Newegg is a highly rated site with very high levels of customer satisfaction.

Buying open box is always a risk because that means that someone has been in that box. Was the camera removed? Did someone shoot photos with it? Does it carry the full maker's warranty? Did some one handle or mishandle the camera? All these are valid questions.

With newegg's high ratings however, you'll probably be safe. However I still believe you'd be better off not saving the $40 and buy new.

These kinds of deals can be so tempting but... who really knows besides newegg - I don't and I don't think you do either.
