Looking to buy Olympus E-450 DSLR camera...any feedback?

New to photography, but want to get something that will be decent.

The E-450 is basically an update of the E-420, adding some art filters and a new image processor (which work better most notably at higher ISO than the e-420) and an increased buffer for continuous shooting. Personally, I don't think it is significantly better the E-420 and you could find some great deals on a E-420 that keep more money in your pocket. The biggest drawback is no IS in the E-4xx cameras, as a result you may want to consider the E-510 or E-520. You can find some great deals on those cameras.

The short of it is: The E-450 and E-420 are both great cameras that will give you professional quality images in a very small, almost pocket sized camera.

Which camera? Nikon D300 or Olympus E-450?

I tried both of these and liked them both, but I don't know which one is better....
Any opinions, suggestions, thoughts???
Oh gosh...sorry guys I meant Nikon D3000.....Yeah i COMPLETELY agree about nikon 300 and olympus E-450, they don't match up at all....

Sorry I meant Nikon 3000 or Olympus E-450

Between those two cameras I would go with the Nikon, simply because it offers you much more flexibility with lenses and future upgrades if you decide to get a better camera later on. All Nikon lenses you buy now will fit any Nikon camera you buy later and there are far more of each than Olympus has to offer. I also believe that the image quality of both the camera and Nikon lenses will be much better, but that is a more subjective opinion. Now if you were comparing Nikon and Canon there would be more of a debate. I still went with a Nikon myself, but there are far fewer trade offs between the two.

Should I buy an Olympus Evolt e-450?

I have a budget of about 450, maybe extra with shipping/taxes, and I cannot figure out which camera to buy. I had found some good ones for cheap prices but they ended on Ebay before I finished saving all the money. I finally have all the money so I was going to get this Olympus because it's a GREAT kit, but I'm reading reviews and I'm not sure if an Olympus is that great. I have just started doing photography, and have a few pin up studio photo shoots I will be doing VERY SOON, I get paid(not a lot, but enough) so I want to have the best for that price, is the Olympus the right choice? And it is not an option to save more money so please don't suggest that, I know SLR cameras are expensive, so I am willing to buy used. I also found a canon rebel xsi for a good price...not sure on it thought because its less megapixels then the olympus

Olympus Film SLR cameras are some of the finest ever made.

Olympus dSLR cameras are not on my list because of the small sensor they have chosen to use in their cameras. They are only 18.00 x 13.50 mm...not that much bigger than 110 film.

Reading reviews and looking at native files it is apparent that Olympus dSLR cameras struggle with noise. Also the tiny, tiny optical viewfinders that Olympus dSLR cameras have are really annoying. In photography, real estate is everything. I would go with a bigger sensor.

Can you use Olympus SLR camera lenses with a Olympus Digital-SLR camera?

My dad has an old olympus OM10 with some lenses and so i was wondering if its possible to use them on a new DSLR camera such as the Olympus E-450?

Thanks, Becky :)

From Olympus:

Olympus OM-series lenses can be mounted on Olympus E-System DSLRs with the optional MF-1 OM Lens Adapter. OM-series lenses are unable to communicate with the firmware in E-System camera bodies. Therefore, their use in this fashion has the following restrictions:

Autofocus is not available.
OM Series autofocus lenses cannot be manually focused.
Stop-down metering is used.
Spot metering does not work properly.
Although it is possible to use the A (Aperture priority AE) shooting mode in auto exposure, the aperture display is not available.
The aperture display in the M (Manual) shooting mode is not available.
In P (Program AE) or S (Shutter speed priority AE) shooting mode, the shutter releases, but the auto exposure control does not work.
The distance scale on the OM system lens may not indicate the actual distance. Always use the viewfinder or Live View for focusing.

Olympus E-510 with 14-42mm 40-150MM lenses at £450 or the canon 450d with 18-55mm lens which one would you buy

have read previous answers and the e 510 looks a great buy but the newer model is out next month so wondering wether to wait for that ,or is the 350 the better camera ?at £500

I own an Olympus E-510. It's a great camera and well worth the price.

What I like best is the Image Stabilization (IS) built in the body. That means all of your lenses have IS, not just certain lenses. Be aware it does make a noise when you turn the camera off with the IS on, it's normal. You can even input the focal length of manual focus and non Olympus lenses and have the IS work. That works great with a manual 400-800mm lens I have. And those longer focal length are when you really need it.

It's my second Olympus DSLR. The only reasons I decided to get a new one was for the IS and live view. The performance is great and competes with any other on the market in the same class, including the Rebel series. With two lenses, you will have more options and with money saved vs the 450D, you will be able to buy all those extras you need with any camera purchase.

If you are open to it, just wait for the E-520 to hit the stores, you should be able to find a good deal on the E-510 stock they still have and even better if you are willing to buy used.

The bottom line is that either of those cameras is a great choice. Personally, I like the better value from Olympus. Check out some reviews at dpreview.com.
