I just got a new Olympus Mju 1040 camera and i can't find anywhere in the manual how you can turn the flash off when taking a photo. HELP!!!
Page 19, "Using flash".
Either link is the same. First is over 8megs, second is like 6.5 megs or look in your manual that came with it, if one did.

Olympus FL-36 Flash
I am planning on buying an Olympus Evolt E500 with a digital flash. This is my first SLR and I don't know that much about cameras/flashes. So I was wondering, is the Olympus FL-36 a good flash to use with that camera? What features does it have that make good? And most importantly, can you use it wirelessly and will it detect when the camera will take the picture without having to use the on-camera flash? Any help is appreciated.
Yes, the flash will work well with the camera.
Wireless? I don't think so.
However, I do know that the Nikon D80 and up have wireless contolled flash, and even remote control shutter.

I have read that Nikon and Canon have superior flashes. Will they be compatible with my Olympus? I eventually want to get a Canon, so the convenience of having one of their flashes would be great. If the flash would be compatible, do you have any suggestions on a stand alone flash that would be used for headshots?
First, you need to be aware that you have to be VERY CAREFUL using stand alone flash units with digital SLR's (and some 35mm SLR's). Many of the units designed for mechanical shutters use a trigger voltage that is too high for electronic shutters. You can buy adapters to suppress the trigger voltage if you have an older or used unit that you want to use.
Second, most DSLR's have internal flash metering designed to work with specific flash units that will help balance flash and ambient light to get the best exposure. For Olympus, they have a number of flashes that work with their OM series cameras and with their digital SLR's. In general the best flash units for cameras are now designed by and for the specific brand.
BTW, Olympus has more experience in electronics than either Canon or Nikon, makes a much wider range of electronic components than either of the others AND they are generally top quality.. I have a twenty five year old Olympus compact tape recorder that still works fine and a number of their flashes that work very well.
Email if you have specific questions or with more details about the specific camera you are getting a flash for.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have an Olympus E-300 DSLR with an Olympus FL-36 flash unit. My camera broke and I was thinking of getting a Canon 450D. Is it ok to use the flash unit with the Canon 450D?
I just tried an FL36, and an FL36R on Canon DSLR (Not a 450D but a 50D) and it wasn't recognised. The FL36/42 series only seems to suit Olympus and Panasonic - they have trouble with some remote wireless systems too.
If you are interested I can point you at someone who would possibly swap you a Sigma Super 500 with Canon mount for your FL36. It is considerably more powerful than the FL36. They have a broken Canon and bought an Olympus. Either that or sell it on eBay and buy a suitable flash with the funds.
ive got a Olympus E-410, And i want to start doing some live band photography for a bit of practice. but the flash on the caera itself sucks so i wanna know what type would be best for what i want to do. Please Help (:
There are several available, but some of them will not really be full service on your E410. I would get either the FL 36 or the FL 45, but don't get the ones that have an "R" on them. The FL 36 and 45 numbers are guide numbers and they are rated in meters. There are just over 3 feet per meter.
