I just got an old Olympus OM-1 35mm cammera given to me. It has several extention lenses and accesories. I have no idea about how to work cuz I have only had digital cameras and cheap 35mm. This is a real nice camera!!! It has the original box! Please someone help me. Thanks
PS. Any stupid comments such as "point and shoot" or "press the button" or anything similar dont bother to answer!
You have a fine camera and you will be able to do some fine work with it.
Rather than having us give you a course in photography (at least a two year commitment) look for a local community college that has photo-art classes and take at least the first class.
If the original box has a manual, take the camera out and without film in it go through the manual page by page and learn how to work all the controls on it.
Note: You will have to get a replacement battery for the light meter. Mercury batteries are no longer made. See link
A basic outline of loading film for an SLR camera, also shows some other features specific to the Olympus OM-1. Most of these things are quite ...
I am somewhat new to photography and very new to film cameras. I received this as a gift and have been taught basics of how to use it. Where online would i be able to get a fisheye lens that is not very expensive? also what are good lens brands in general for this camera

Please help me take a professional quality picture with this camera. I can't afford to take photography classes. I got the camera given to me. It is an old one but I took some pictures with it and it takes descent pictures. But I have no idea what I am doing with this camera. My camera is a digital camera in which you just point and shoot but this one has a lot of gadets that I dont know how to work. The only thing that it didnt have was an instruction book. It has extension lenses with it too. If you would like to see pictures that I have taken so that you can give me some advice on this camera and my work please IM me. My id is ilovejohn1313 for yahoo messenger. Please I need help and a friend on which to consult. Thanks so much.
The OM-1 is capable of professional quality. The rest is up to the photographer.
I've been offered one or the other and I'm not sure which one to pick.
I'd go with the Minolta.
Both are fine cameras, but both are so old that service is pretty much impossible to find. Minolta sold a lot more SRTs, so lenses and other accessories are easy to find on the used market, usually at very reasonable prices.
Be darn sure the shutter, meter and lens are in working order before you take one home.
I have an old olympus om-1 that i would like to use for school, it hasn't been touched in years. I think it is in good body condition, but it doesn't work at all. i should first get batteries, right? because it doesn't do anything right now. How do i know if it works. Where can i get batteries and maybe a cleaning? idk..any tips?
Does anyone know if this is a 35 mm camera? the lens says 49mm and 50mm...
As the proud owner of three OM1 cameras, I can tell you authoritatively that the battery is not necessary to the mechanical operation of the camera. It only operates the light meter.
If it does not work, it probably needs a Cleaning, Lubrication and Adjustment - about $150 or so. If the camera sounds like it is working but the film is screwed up, check the lens up switch which is opposite the rewind switch on the front of the camera. If, when you take the lens off, you can look right thorough the camera, that means that the mirror is up.
50mm is the lens and 49mm is the filter size.
