How can I fix my Olympus OM 2 SLR Camera?

The shutter on my Olympus OM-2 SLR doesn't function properly. When the shutter button is pressed, the mirror flips up, and the curtain doesn't move. How can I fix it so that the mirror comes down properly and timely?

Since the OM 2 is an Aperture Priority camera its pretty much battery dependent. Use the Battery Check to see if the battery is dead or close to it. There should be one manual speed that will fire the shutter - might be the X Sync for flash. Check the Owner's Manual and see what it says.

If this doesn't help, you'll have to find a repair center that still repairs older 35mm cameras like yours.

any views on om-2? olympus?

Hi

i just got a olympus om-2.

i have 2 lenses with it:)

i was wondering if anyone has any reviews on this, what they like etc, and about the features.

i need a lens for it, im looking to spend under 200 pounds/ 350 USD?

i want a 300-500mm one ... but i dont want some cheap crap.

any one?

A great camera in it's day. Features will depend on the exact model of OM-2 but it's basically a 35mm manual focus camera with manual and aperture priority automatic exposure. I don't think you'll find any new lenses currently being made for the OM-2, but ebay should be a good source to find an Olympus, Sigma or Tamron lens in the correct fit (OM mount) for your camera

Nikon FE vs. Minolta X-700 vs. Olympus OM-2/OM-4?

i've narrowed it down to the nikon and the minolta;maybe the olympus.
which is better?which has more features?which has the best lense?which takes more lenses?
i'd like something that would grow as my needs grow.
a list or explanation of what they could do or why i should choose that specific camera over the others would be more than appreciated.
typo,i meant the Nikon FE2,not the FE.

Only the Nikon will give you a system approach that is currently supported. It will allow you to acquire both lenses and accessories for this camera that will still function with later film and digital bodies.

There will be limitations with this. If you upgrade the body, you may not be able to use all the newer body functionality with the earlier lenses and accessories.

The FE2 and OM4 are similar generation cameras (early 1980's). The OM2 is a generation earlier, and X-700 a generation later.

Other than the Nikon, you might want to think about any of the Pentax K mount bodies. These include bodies from Asahi (Pentax), Ricoh, Cosina, Sears etc. Some of these are re-badged Ricoh, others re-badged Cosina. They give access to the range of Pentax compatible lenses, and an upgrade path into digital as well.

Canon of that generation are not forward compatible with the later Canon equipment. The FD series lens mount was replaced in about 1986 by the EF series lenses.

Which is better? I don't own the FE2, but do have an FM2n and FA in my collection. They are both brilliant cameras. If the FE2 is as good, it will be a very good camera. That said, the Olympus OM single digit series were class leading in their day as well. I am not as familiar with the later Minolta.

Olympus OM (OM-1 or OM-2) or Pentax Spotmatic F?

I was just wondering the opinion of some of you guys. I like film camera and actually have a couple of OM lenses, but wondered what was your experience with Olympus OM with Zuico lenses vs Pentax Spotmatic with Takumar lenses. I am thinking of purchasing one of those, please advise. Thank you
I think Olympus OM lens price is a bit higher than Takumar if I am correct. What about the light meters, do they have the same system for measuring?

Both have excellent lens systems.

The Olympus lenses are easier to mount than the screw mount Pentax

You will have to find alternative batteries for the light meters though. Mercury batteries have been band throughout the world.

Olympus 0M-2 lenses interchangeable with Rebel series?

I've three lenses from OM-2 body which needs repair. I read some info on their website and I think it's possible. Can anyone give me some tips how to proceed. Is it worth it? I've had no response from O company.

No ... they are not interchangeable. While there may be adapters available, you will lose all your auto exposure features Link:

You can find a good used OM-2 body for under $75 some place ... look on craigslist in a city near you or check with a camera store near a local college that has a photo class before you buy from anyone on eBay

My local camera had two OM-2's and an OM-1 on the shelf, ready for the new students.
