How can I fix my Olympus OM 2 SLR Camera?

The shutter on my Olympus OM-2 SLR doesn't function properly. When the shutter button is pressed, the mirror flips up, and the curtain doesn't move. How can I fix it so that the mirror comes down properly and timely?

Since the OM 2 is an Aperture Priority camera its pretty much battery dependent. Use the Battery Check to see if the battery is dead or close to it. There should be one manual speed that will fire the shutter - might be the X Sync for flash. Check the Owner's Manual and see what it says.

If this doesn't help, you'll have to find a repair center that still repairs older 35mm cameras like yours.

advance lever won't move more than half way and advance spool won't move either. it happened midway through a roll of film and would not advance anymore. I rewound the roll and took it out and it still will not advance.

You cannot ... the gearing within the film advance and shutter cocking lever is damaged ... somewhere along the line someone forced the advance lever and caused some damage.

You will need to take the camera into a repair shop that can repair Olympus cameras

Olympus OM-2n manual setting doesn't work. Should I fix it and how much it might cost?

Hi,

I have an Olympus OM-2n system in great condition overall. However, the manual setting on the camera doesn't seem to work. It seems that even when set to manual the camera operates as automatic. I determined that by setting off shutter at various speeds and relalized that it work depending on light variance. I have 4 great lenses for a camera and would really like to have a fully working item, but wanted to hear your opinion?

Thanks

The OM-2n is a superb manual focus camera; you might want to compare the cost of a used, working OM-2n vs.the cost of the repair vs. what it would take to move to a digital SLR.

My guess is that it would be cheaper to get a working OM-2n, and more expensive to repair yours.

How well does an Olympus OM 707 camera take portraits?

I know nothing about portraits, but I do know that my canon powershot digital camera doesn't fulfill the portraits I want. I can't find any portraits online using this camera and I really want to buy this off of someone but I am skeptical

That Olympus is an old film camera.
How well does it perform for portraits? That depends on your choice of lens, film, and lighting, but most of all on YOU.

If you know exactly what you're doing, it will do very well for you. Then again, that is true to a large degree for the Powershot, as well.

Don't expect miracles from it - the photographer makes a MUCH bigger difference to the outcome than the camera does.

Anyone know how to work an Olympus OM-1 Model# 1804342?

I just got an old Olympus OM-1 35mm cammera given to me. It has several extention lenses and accesories. I have no idea about how to work cuz I have only had digital cameras and cheap 35mm. This is a real nice camera!!! It has the original box! Please someone help me. Thanks

PS. Any stupid comments such as "point and shoot" or "press the button" or anything similar dont bother to answer!

You have a fine camera and you will be able to do some fine work with it.

Rather than having us give you a course in photography (at least a two year commitment) look for a local community college that has photo-art classes and take at least the first class.

If the original box has a manual, take the camera out and without film in it go through the manual page by page and learn how to work all the controls on it.

Note: You will have to get a replacement battery for the light meter. Mercury batteries are no longer made. See link
