Hello, I have a Nikon D3000 and it's an excellent one. I'm trying to improve it and plan to buy a flash and a lens. Now these are my options:
Metz 48 AF-1 or Nikon SB-600?
Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 AF Macro Pentax AF Mount
or
Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor Lens
or
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Motorized Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon?
Please provide your recommendations. I like VR but also like the Zoom. I'm opened to suggestions
The Metz flash is a better unit than the SB-600, with more power and features. It is also cheaper. Metz has been making pro flashes for a long time, and it a well known name, not a "generic" or off-brand company.
The lenses... personally I'd take the Sigma, but you may wish to have the stabilized 55-200. Although it sounds like a lot, the difference between 200 and 300mm is not all that great. The VR feature of the Nikon lens may be of more use to you than the extra 100mm on the Sigma.

i was looking at the Metz 48 af-1 and the Sigma DG 530 for my Samsung gx-10 (copy of pentax k10d) the Sigma does not have a screen but i can buy it local. The Metz does have a screen bit i have to buy off the internet. the metz has a slight problem because it doesnt lock properly when fully upright and falls down if a big bouncer is on. both are the same price and i eed answers quick.
the metz stays on the camera but the head falls down
The Sigma may be your best choice ... at lest it will stay on your camera while in use.
The LCD screens on the newer flash units help you choose the exact amount of power your flash puts out (important when you are using flash fill) and to check that the auto zoom matches the zoom position your lens is set.
Is there a Sigma or Pentax dedicated flash unit that does have all the features and an LCD? If so, that would be my choice ... and I would just save my money until I could afford the right flash until Your camera does have an onboard flash, so you can take your time

Low budget flash triggers? - PentaxForums.com
-1. I am looking to buy some fairly cheap trigger/receivers as currently I do not have a high budget. I do also own Vivitar 285 HV Zoom Thyristor Auto flash unit from many years ago and would like to get this into use maybe? Some people recommend the Cactus triggers but I have read many negative reviews, then there are CTR-301's and RF-602's. I have read about problems with sync speeds but I don't understand a lot of this technical stuff! I had experienced the 'problems' of reception with these triggers, which was only due to weak batteries that they shipped with. Once the receivers and transmitter where given fresh batteries, I got full working line-of-sight up to 100 meters outside. I think as long as you have a rough line-of-sight to the receivers and the batteries are fully charged, you'll be quite happy with them.
