I am going to Japan-Tokyo in the month of August. Could anyone suggest me a good place where I can shop a nice zoom lense (telephoto) for my K10D Pentax? Name of the store and nearest landmark to the store would be a great help to look for the place. Thanks a ton.
The japanese people are world renowned for the way
they care for things they own.Might be good to look
for ads from private parties and getting one used.
Photography is very popular in japan since
they love to travel so i bet you will have many options.
A used lens has its advantages also when returning
to the states and dealing with customs, any savings you may
have found are consumed by high import duties.
Video filmed with 8" telescope. It´s unfortunately overexposured, but this was my mistake, not from Kx.

Go Shinjyuku and compare with several Camera discount shops there. Yodobashi Camera, Sakuraya, Bic Camera and many more.
where I can get good telephoto zoom lense for my pentax K10D camera.
I am looking for something in the range of 175mm to 400mm-500mm..
I am not gettng good deals for pentax. I have seen Sigma and it only carries 300mm range..
Hope I can find a good deal in Tokyo. Pls advice asap..
Thanks a ton.
If you're looking for new gear, the big chain shops (Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera, Sakuraya, etc.) will have the largest selection and decent, but not the lowest prices (though they're very competitive if you're a resident due to their loyalty program point cards).
For both new and used gear, Map Camera in Nishi-Shinjuku (near the post office).
For used gear Fujiya Camera in Nakano.
In the current economy you will probably find that japanese prices on new gear (and used too - japan is a more mature market for used photo gear than the US and will rarely find something underpriced the way you could on eBay about 10 years ago) are no bargain compared with what you can get in the US, especially if you live outside Japan and have to deal with warranty issues (most camera companies will refuse to repair gear sold out of its market, even on a paid basis).
I recently bought myself a DSLR camera- A cannon EOS Rebel T1i (came with a *cheap* 18-55mm auto-focus lens) and I'm not sure how the cannon series camera lenses work. ( I have a old Pentax k1000 film SLR that I've been using) I was wondering what type of lenses (old & new) would work with my camera. Is there particular types of lenses that I can use, or anywhere I could go for a look-up list?
I don't particularly want to spend a lot of money for lenses that would be useless to me.
Some of the lenses I have been eying have been the:
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Telephoto Lens
Canon 400 mm 2.8 L IS USM Lens
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Autof
301 Preset 400mm f/6.3 for Canon FL/FD mount
302 Quantaray 400mm f/6.3 preset for Canon FL/FD mount
Perhaps is there a letter or number combo I should be looking for?
The cheap "preset" lenses for the old FL/FD mount will NOT mount on your T1i. Since they are a waste of money you should be thankful for that.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. In fact, I suggest using it for at least 3 months before even considering another lens.
When you aren't out with your camera, you can spend time reading "David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Using Digital SLR Lenses" by David Busch. http://www.dbusch.com
In 3 months you should have a good idea of the type of photography you do the most and you can then buy a lens that best suits your needs. Running out now and buying a lens just because someone on here says you should will likely waste your money. So spend 3 months using your T1i and 18-55mm lens and then decide what lens or lenses you need.
FLASH OF LIGHT: Pentax 645D...coming soon.
WAS sound. I loveD music, still do, it's so Alive. To me sound is participating, living, being, its energy, electricity, I'LL say it again, its so alive. To me Music is like seeing the inner soul of the musician or singer. I later found an affinity for words and the path soon lead me to movies which began my relationship with film and pictures.
