Im trying to figure out if my old pentax lenses would be compatible with a new pentax SLR (i'd probably get the k100d). the lenses are pretty old and the aperture is set on the lens. i could figure out if it is compatible if i knew the mount type (ex. k-mount, s-mount, kaf2-mount, 67/645).
ok, i just found out that it has a "K-Bayonet mount" does anyone know if it will work on the k100d then?
One of the big advantages of Pentax cameras is that they are compatible with the lineup of lenses going back to the old K-mount. The short answer is yes, your K-mount lens will work on the new digital SLR, but of course, it won't autofocus.

I have alot of good (old) pentax lenses for a film slr camera. I am new to slr photography, these lenses were given to me. Is it worth trying to fit a new digital slr to old lenses? Will I see any difference in the pics if I had new lenses for a digital camera? Any help to get me started would be greatly appreciated!
I used to work in a camera shop and I remember the older Pentax lenses were called "Pentax K-Mount Lenses". These lenses worked on several house brand cameras as well as Pentax. The best camera that I know of that used to work with these lenses is the Ricoh brand. K-Mart also made a camera that used these called "Focal", I think. And possibly Vivitar used them. So, you could look into these brands of digital SLRs and see if they still use the Pentax mount. I think your pics will look fine with the older lenses.
You are wise to utilize those lenses if possible. Saves a ton of money and they don't make 'em like they used to.
Good luck! I hope this helps!

I've been looking at the Pentax lenses for fun, and found it sort of painful to look at them. Please understand I'm not bashing on Pentax in any way, I think they are a good company, this is simply an observation. But does anyone else think that the Pentax lenses look absolutely hideous? That green color hurts my eyes... very unnatural looking...
From checking the Pentax site I'm guessing you are referring to the green band on some of their lenses?
Did you know that Leica once marketed, I believe, an M3 in camoflage? How about the Leica Limited Edition M8.2 "Safari" model? Painted a more or less olive drab.
Do you think the Pentax K-x in White would be a good choice for a wedding photographer?

I've had a Nikon dSLR for some time now, and my father recently uncovered his old SLR and a set of five beautifully-preserved Pentax lenses. They're all primes, and I'm crazy about my Nikon 50mm as it is. Is there a way to use Pentax lenses on a Nikon mount? If so, where might I be able to purchase an adapter or converter?
There are no [nikon] f mount to [pentax] k mount adapters to to the best of my knowledge. And even if there is, it will not be perfect.
You see to focus properly, a lens must be placed a very specific distance from the sensor or film. Within a fraction of a millimeter. Any farther or any closer and suddenly it won't focus to the hyperfocal or up close, respectively. Placing the lens farther away also causes light fall off.
Nikon placed their lens mount slightly farther from the sensor/film already, and an adapter would add several additional millimeters that the Pentax lens wasn't designed to handle.
Oh, you can get around this problem with special optics. But such adapters are very expensive, and reduce the optical quality significantly.
I have a whole bunch of old film Pentax lenses that seem really nice but they are to small to fit onto my Canon Rebel... is there any kind of adapter I can use?
Too bad you didn't do a little research before buying your Canon DSLR. All your Pentax lenses would have been right at home on a Pentax DSLR since Pentax uses the lens mount first introduced in 1975 on their DSLR cameras.
I did find an adapter to use the Pentax K-mount lenses on your Canon DSLR.

Pentax 21mm F/3.2 AL Limited Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras ...
With newly developed, high-performance optics, this new lens measures only one inch (25 millimeters long) and weighs a mere 4.9 ounces (140 grams). Mounted on a PENTAX digital SLR camera body, the lens protrudes very little from the camera's front panel, making it an ideal choice for carry-everywhere, instantaneous snapshot photography. This versatile angle of view produces natural images with a moderate perspective and an expanded depth of field (or a wide in-focus area), making it ideal for many different types of subjects and occasions, including snapshots, landscape, travel photos, and architecture. The DA 21mm incorporates a hybrid aspherical lens in its eighth optical element to effectively compensate for a variety of aberrations, which cause adverse effects on overall image quality. In order to assure high-quality image reproduction over the entire focusing range, it also features a floating mechanism, which is designed to adjust the degree of aberration compensation in relation to the focusing distance. If you are looking for a camera lens that transforms the look of your imposing SLR into a advanced point and shoot (everyone jumps out of the way of SLR for some reason), while maintaining excellent image quality, and increased ease of handling, the DA 21 is the perfect lens for you. With respect to handling, I hate carrying around a bagful of camera gear. There are many times where I want to walk around with just the camera and lens. The combo of K200D+DA21 is about as light as a SLR+lens can get and it handles beautifully. Two potential negatives include wishing for either a bit more width (or more focal length), and a maximum aperture of only 3.2. Wanting more length is not a problem, as the DA21 takes high enough quality pictures to allow me to crop until I get what I want. I can't do anything about width, but 21mm was good enough for me in cities such as Hong Kong and Seoul. Also, in the times when I needed to take hand-held self portraits with my significant other, the DA21mm performed flawlessly. Try taking one handed self portraits with the DA* 16-50!! Back in the '80's I owned a Pentax ME Super and I thereafter soon bought several "M" lenses to go with it (most notably the 28mm F2.8 and the 135mm F3.5). These lenses were given the "M" classification because of their Miniature size. I always loved the optical and mechanical performance of those little wonders. I have now finally found in the 21st Century an equivalent (actually they're even a bit better!) in the Pentax Limited Series. I am now the proud owner of three of that breed: the DA 21mm f3.2, the DA 35mm f2.8 Macro and the DA 70mm f2.4. I love the 21mm- it's perfect for street photography, landscapes, all around "snapshots" and, with it's close focusing, even near macro. It's small in size and light in weight which makes it a joy to carry and it is actually made of real metal! It focuses quite fast with AF and if needed it can be overridden to manual focus without pushing any buttons or moving any levers. While it is in the wide angle family, it is not an ultra wide, so there is little to no distortion to be found. I would highly reccomend this lens (and any member of the Pentax Limited Series, for that matter) to anyone who wishes to push the boundaries of their photographic experience and invest in some superior quality primes. You can see the difference!
