Pentax Ist

Just received one as a gift and was told its the same brand Samsung GX-1l is just a re-brand of the Pentax ist DL. Does anyone know if the battery grip for the pentax will work with the samsung. Thanks for any positive information.

I don't think Pentax ever made an official grip for their *ist DL DSLR. It made one for the *ist D but the base plate port was later removed rendering the Pentax BG-1 unusable with the newer and cheaper models like the DL, DS, and DS2 and their Samsung counterparts.

If you are talking about a third-party grip, they should be interchangeable (*ist DL with GX-1L). The shutter grips like the Dicain SG-1 only connect through the cable release port while battery grips like the OwnUser adaptation uses the DC IN and the cable release ports. The GX-1L is nearly identical to the *ist and have both of these universal ports. The Dicain SG-1 has been confirmed to work with the GX-1L and the OwnUser grip should work too. Because these DSLR models were never designed or intended for grips, ugliness seems to be an unfortunate attribute of such aftermarket products.

Ist*Ds with DAL 18-55 , DAL 55-300 , AF speed

My Pentax ist appeared to be out of batteries, so I replaced them, but it is still displaying the low battery icon and not turning on. I've had this happen before with cheap batteries that don't have enough power to run the camera, but I just put in Energizer lithium batteries which can usually power it for a few weeks, or even months depending on how many pictures I take. I'm going on a trip in a few days, and would really like to have a working camera with me, any help is appreciated :)

I have an *ist Ds model, and it never really liked lithium's either. Probably should look in the manual and see if lithium's are even recommended, but really my cam works best with plain old energizers, and also rechargeable crv-3 batteries.
Oh and of course pull them out, and make sure you have them installed correctly (duh).

I am looking to purchase a new lens and wanted to get suggestions on the best lens to purchase in order to shoot a large group of people and get everyone to come out clear and/or even take photos of more than 3 people and everyone come out clear. Also, any suggestions on how camera settings on how to do this as well would be appreciated.

A 50mm would work nicely. 35mm might be a bit better with the APS sensor.

Natural perspective.

Stay away from zooms if you are interested in the best quality that you can get from your camera.

I have accumilated many lenses for my K1000 but I want to jump into the digital world. The ist seems like a good starting point if it accepts my lenses.

I'm not quite familiar with Pentax, but it should work. Other companies older lenses work with newer digital cameras, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with yours.

It should have the same lens thread.

I would like to buy this camera, but i want to know if it has good image quality with it's stock lens. The reason behind that is because I will not be able to purchase a bester lens for some time. Please help assistance is greatly apriciated
