Pentax K

I have a Pentax ist dl, I am looking for k mount film lenses at flea markets and such. How do I determine that a lens is k mount lens?

Qoph has some good links. When looking at lenses, AVOID KR LENSES!!! They have an extra pin that will cause the lens to get stuck on the camera (you can get the lens off, but it requires a feeler gauge. Learned this from personal experience). Also there are some other lenses that are labeled K but they have an extra little lip of metal near the aperture lever. These will not go on the camera at all.

The best think to do is to bring your camera along with you and test the lens on the camera if you are unsure. Just be careful, you may even want to take a feeler gauge just in case.

I have a Pentax ME camera, with several lenses, but it's old so i'd like to buy a different one. Can i use the same lenses for the Pentax K-m, or would i have to buy more? Thanks.

The ME used the pentax K mount, which is mechanically the same as the pentax DSLR mount in that your lens will mount, however there may not be any aperture coupling so you will need to use manual mode and focus before setting the aperture before taking your picture.

The Pentax DSLRs have a menu function so you can tell the camera you are using manual lenses and it will do some processing tweaks to account for them.

Do bear in mind that the pentax DSLRs have a sensor that is 1.5x smaller than a frame of film, so this in effect makes lenses behave as if they are 1.5x the focal length, great for telephoto, not so great for wide angle.

You will also experience a bit of a jump between the quality of the ME super full frame penta-prism and the smaller penta-mirror of the K-m, this will make manual focusing more difficult unfortunately.

So the lenses should work, but it may not be a particularly enjoyable or fluid experience.

Unless you use a courier instead of the postal system and are willing to pay more for taxes and shipping then there is no problem aside from warranty issues. It is more advisable to buy cameras locally just to have a valid warranty and an assurance that your camera will be accepted for service by the local authorized service center.

i am dying to buy a pink pentax k-x but i heard that this version is only available in japan. i am wondering if it would ever be available in the philippines. if not, what trusted site can i order it from that ships to the philippines? i also need to ensure that the pentax k-x i'll be ordering from japan has an english menu and manual. thanks. hoping desperately someone could be of great help. :D

The camera itself is exactly the same as the North American version, except that it will come with Japanese language as the default. You can change it to English in the menu.

Note that the manual and all other documentation will be in Japanese. You can download an English manual:

You might want to ask about whether the warranty would require sending it to Japan for service. You might be able to buy a supplementary warranty if you want.

The software that comes with the camera should install in English if you prefer.
